Story time with Wong Wei

Postby Agar » Thu May 18, 2006 1:47 am

So recently, but more than four days ago, Wong Wei spilled his guts, laid out a breif history of how he came to be so surprised he is where he is.

And how did the town react?

Meh.

With the exception of a sole person who doesn't really count for much, no one batted an eye.

Was this all just in character boredom, the "We'd rather watch people RP they're tramuatised by asparagus" or "I'm going for a swim *splash splash*" mentality, or does no one really care OOCly?

For those of you in Doryiskom who saw the speech, I'd like to know what was going on, 'cause I'm really just confused anymore. :?

It is the egocentrism running rampant in the cantr population. Seriously... a few of my charries can't scrape up enough interest from others for barely a conversation... let alone any kind of organized activity. Well.... enough of my rant. :P

Sorry I missed it in Dory. My charry's not outside.

I saw it, but my charrie's relatively new to town and didn't feel like it was their place to comment.

Saw what? Come on, if it's really been four days you can talk about it. Otherwise this thread is just a way to tease everyone who doesn't have a char there...

This was about his life, and then how he became and councilor, right?

I remember I saw this...my character got a bit pissed but wasn't going to say anything about it cause thats not his way, he just holds it in and talks behind peoples back

Is really everyone egocentric and backstabbing? I'd like to think it wasn't that way.

Short version for those not in Dory:

Spawned, Joyride in Shiminzo (perhaps the first), notethief, whapped by stone knights visiting, tossed in jail, rotted alone and unnoticed for nearly 80 days, got out, left town, came back, ran for council, WON, been surprised ever since.

I'm actually going through all my turn reports, I have them all from the very beginning of this account and this was my first character, and I'm compiling them into one continous log of Wong's life.

I saw it but am also fairly new to town. What exactly do you want people to say? The fact he was so young is a bit inspiring to my own character, but otherwise......

I find that that town is rather noisy. On five occasions since my character has arrived, he/she has asked questions and they've gone unanswered.

On three seperate occasions that was to either of the two of the councilors. That's a bit discouraging for me as a player. Noting that the both of them had been awake after the questions had been asked. And days or more had gone by on two of those occasions. It's also discouraging to my character in some sense and at the same time, driving as well. They were actually fairly important questions.

IE Who is running for elections at this point? Another was about food and the harvester. Another about a job.

Let me say, I see potential in that town and at the same time I am frustrated, I also relate to the stress of playing characters in positions where you log in for the first time in a day and there's about 15 questions or requests people have come to you with, you get to about the second one and as you're responding, one of the people who asked you something while you were away from the computer is wondering why you haven't gotten to him yet, so then you need to stop and answer him telling him "I'll get to you in a minute, I haven't forgotten about you." and you begin to wonder if you're ever going to get to everyone! I completely understand what it's like to be in a town that's like that. lol Doryiksom seems like one of those to me.

It could also be, btw, that the people don't actually care for Wong or aren't impressed by him as their counciler/glad he's not running again?
Or it could also be that because he isn't running, people don't care about who he was. ----I'd say this is likely.
I don't honestly know.
Maybe they're even shocked so bad they can't think of what to say.

For me personally, I almost don't feel welcome in the town. I'm not sure yet, how to strike up a conversation that means anything. Much less what Wong's story actually means, yet, since I know next to little about how the town works aside for knowing I've been ignored so much, I want to go somewhere in life and that I'm beginning to dislike things so much that I want to gain the love of the people and run for council position in ten years from now. I liked Little John's lil speech though.

Never knowingly been in Doryiskom, but have had similar issues as a newspawn... I take as very like real life though. Oft times people have no concern for others and their questions unless it effects them..

Let's remember that places where Newspawns are welcomed, talked to and given help its usally motivated by the desire to find new employees or citizens to do some work for other peope...

As for long winded. self promoting speeches, it depends on your character and their temperament surely... If your Wong doesn't get a response surely he should sulk or shut up or whatever....

Just confirms what I said elsewhere - Catrians are individualists at heart, highly egocentric.

And you're right about RP - as The Sociologist said - the dolls tea party...

although theres like 40+ character in dory only about 10 of them are actually played and much less than that played well.

because of this the two councilors are seen to have complete control over everything rather than a voice for the people (because there are no people and new ones aren't allowed :x ) Theres nobody to comment on anything they do.

At the moment they could most likely lock the town whole town up and kill everyone and 90% of the population wouldn't even notice threy were dead.

You've seen that events page after people have been playing, seemingly trying to hit that "Funny IC quotes" thread. Long conversations, storms of whispering, sprinkled with animal abuse and the random traveller introducing themselves.

It's hard to hear anything!

And once you've named half the people that have introduced themselves, you have to hit "Show all" to even find the rest, and that can take some time to load as the RP shows over the last few days are all there.

Sorry for anyone that was ignored, try handing people notes. Probally why Senator Howto does his "deaf/mute town leader" bit in Olip, makes people give him notes and he gets RP recognition.

CrashBlizz, I still, for the life of me, can't figure out why you consider Wong Wei corrupt, other than what you assume will happen after he leaves office. Sure, we exiled your character after he tried to take over the town, that is what most people would do, at least, the ones that wouldn't have just outright killed your character. You should be grateful he lived as long as he did afterwards. And then you bring another character over to the same town after he'd invested enough time somewhere else to make a crowbar before he was 30, and just park your butt there to bitch at us all over again. If I cared, I'd have PD lecture you on sending characters for OOC reasons to act on your OOC motives, but I don't.

My charcter has a reason for being there so go ahead and ask them. He had a very good reason for getting a crowbar, leaving, going back and leaving again before heading to dory and he's got a reason for leaving as well. But first he has to do what he's there for.

And just to settle these rumours once and for all, Seth Bero didn't try to take over the town.

It would have made a good speech to announce that you were running in the election. As it was, it was like "You should thank me for all I've done as Councilor, because look how far I've come". Nobody else in town has had such dramatic turn-arounds in their lives and can't relate. What can I say -- I once used to be a really bad hunter and NOW - I'm still a really bad hunter. You've grown and evolved without us, dude.

I didn't react much because I already knew the story. Well, the good parts anyway, if not all the details.

Dory's about the weirdest place I've ever been. There are at least ten people in that town, old ones, who do nothing whatsoever but sleep. And yet, every ten years or whatever, they'll wake up to farm some food to stay alive, and then it's back to the coma.

Add that to the standard dozen to twenty newspawns who wake up and then just rot there after a day or two of talk, and like CrashBlizz says out of 40 people in public maybe 10 are played, maybe 5 played well.

Seth didn't try to take over Doryiskom.... yet. Sure seemed like he wanted to eventually, though. Exile was exactly what he deserved in terms of the RP-dynamic. Same for the other char that showed up soon after, and I agree with Agar on that one -- lame.

I don't think Seth will be able to take over the town now...... (according to what was posted on 'gone but not forgotten' a few weeks ago...)

and yes, Dory is strange... seems quite active, but most of the conversations are by just a few characters who seems to be awake all the time...
