Why don't we just have two signs, one original sign assigned by the builder, and once temporary sign that can be put up at any time.

I would have to say I disagree with building amnesia, and not only for historical reasions. When building amnesia does hit, what happens if some buildings are misnamed, and as a result the key to what you believe is your house doesnt work.

Furthermore, I also don't see any point to building amnesia, as it is completly possible to just rename buildings.

Also, imagine how much trouble newspawns and travelers will have whenever they enter a major city, when there could be a good 20 to 30 buildings minimum. It would take forever for them to even begin to find their way around town, assuming someone is willing to devote all their time to pointing at every building and telling them its name.

I think a better approach would be to not retroactivly apply building amnesia, but only apply it to all buildings constructed after implementation. (I guess we can assume that all buildings constructed prior to implementation were adequately labled so that everyone recognises them, kind of like how archeologists know the names and functions of many ruins from Ancient Rome.)

Yes, this is a society simulator, but I'd hope most people know some history by the time they are 20. It would be completly unrealistic for someone of this age to not know a thing about their sourroundings, even if they just spawned there. (and I am not talking about character histories, i am talking about a vague resembelance of world history, applying only to buildings that had been constructed prior to amnesia implementation)

As for vehicle amnesia, it would eliminate the problem of cars with stupid names, but I don't think amnesia is a very good idea for this either, if only for the sheer number of galleons that could be inside a harbour when amnesia is implemented. If, Jos forbid, every person is in town when this happens, good luck finding your ship! I also see amnesia as being pointless for the same reason as stated about housing - they can be renamed.

Yes, I know it is a lot of text, and I doubt many will read it, but thats my 2 cents on vehicle and building amnesia.

I am totally in favour of building and vehicle name amnesia. It is very out of character to know what some buildings are there for without someone telling you, or taking a look for yourself.

Like the town name amnesia, a period of time can be set to remember important buildings.

I don't think it will be a hassle to tell everyone what each building does. Who is going to tell people the function of each building anyway? "...and this is where the limestone is kept." Unless someone has a specific reason to know what a building is for, its name won't need to be revealed.

Goitre the names rarely reflect the purpose of a building... And just because some one tells you the the 'Hall of sudden death for newspawns' contains the potato supply doesn't mean you won't check for youself!

It is entirely reasonable that when building a home or civic building a name is enscribed on it. Similarly boats often have a clear name on them. Cars and vehicles less so (unless you take registration plates more recently) but there also needs to be some clear way of distinguishin which bike is yours?

It's already being implemented I believe.

As for the discussion of building amnesia, Cantr RPers claim in unison and in mass-majority that there is a 'sign' on the building or car that explains it's purpose, owner or name.
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:
"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

Signs on buildings of any type have not yet been implemented (as distinct from landmarks )

I believe you are confusing dynamic naming with signs - Signs read the same to all viewers - dynamic naming is personal to that character - it currently happens to default to the original builders name but is not a sign in itself.

There used to be talk of, rather than building amnesia, a "change name of building" project. But I suppose since buildings and such are dynamic now as long as we have signs that can be placed on (and removed from) buildings it'll work out.

Oh, and one thing that bothers me: Stone landmarks don't seem to deteriorate. I don't like living in "Blackrock Forest".
