Yeah, I can identify it. I can also make an effective cure with it. Don't worry, Ebola can't travel through the air, only liquid and solid, so stay away from anything he touches...we'll probably have to step outside the ship and have it cleansed afterward, but we'll be safe so long as we keep Albert in quarantine.
Dang, this would be so much easier on a bigger ship!

Please, flyboy, I only worry when we're in an unsolvable situation, which we're not. We just need to find this cure.
The intrepid crew lands on the jungle planet. It is just that, a jungle planet. Nothing particularly unusual, and more importantly, nothing resembling the plant. However this planet is not depopulated. According to the last record there's a town not too far away...

Ira scowls as he cuts more jungle brush out of the way with his long knife, slapping at the bugs that fly up near his face. "Ensign's log: stardate, whatever... This planet officially sucks. Too many bugs. No sign of the plant we need. We're likely to contract ten completely unheard of jungle diseases even if we do cure the engineer's ebola, which at this rate we won't. Planet analysis reveals a town nearby. I have suggested that we leave both the engineer and the doctor there to find the cure, and then take off without them. No response yet from the captain on that one... In other news, the bodyguard snores in his sleep. Loudly. End log."

The mechanics still capable of moving, but the virus is slowly eating away at his spirit. Eventually he'll become a soul-less automaton plugging along at whatever goal was last set for himself, in this case, finding a cure to Ebola. After a few days he'll die and a black sludge of billions of Ebola viruses will pour out of his body, infecting anyone who even touches it.
Yes, Ebola does exist in RL. Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.
Meanwhile, as Captain and crew trudge through the vegetation, a blast of plasma sears into the tree next of them, and it very quickly becomes apparent that two bands of guerilla fighters are shooting at each other, with captain and crew caught in the crossfire!
Searing wounds bite deep into Amanda, and Smirg gets his ear taken off. Shrapnel from a grenade soon after embeds itself in the mechanics flailing arm. The captain and Ira come out unscathed.
A man rushes out to try and protect the captain but is shot down almost instantly. The firing continues.
This is bad, this is bad, this is very very bad, this whole planet was a bad idea. We've got to get back to the ship! Ditch the mechanic, this is too dangerous, we'll all be killed!
'Round 2' of injury and what not will occur tommorow. Since we're in actual combat now, I figure I'll speed things up. To be frank, it's not as if you're not getting an entire day.
