when a ship sinks...

Postby fishfin » Tue May 02, 2006 2:01 pm

I thought I heard some where that ships sinking was going to be implimented, if it isn't then it should.
Before the ship sinks the players on it should get a warning so that they can send out a call for help (once radios are added on ships).
I think that when a ship sinks the players in it end up in the water swiming (instead of dying strait off) and after swiming for a few hours you die.

I am not aware if this has already been suggested, but what about allowing rafts to be included inside a ship (assuming it is big enough).

Then if the ship sinks, the people could get onto the raft and survive even if they are far from land.

Also, ships don’t usually sink immediately even if they strike rocks, it takes time. the people on board should get a warning like:
1518-7.32: You see some water leaking into Boat Name.

And this would continue for a few updates, kind of like when you are hungry.

The people on board should also have the ability to repair minor damage (like leaks) to boats while at sea, but should have to land on shore or at a town to repair major damage (like hitting rocks or an ice berg).

This gives me a really good idea! Boats should sink when they have too much in them, and when your boat has a hole in it, water is added into objects, so it adds weight and eventually sinks it! But you should have the option to throw stuff overboard, and then you could be able to get rid of the water! OR just have it so you can work on project "Bailing out water."

And there becomes a good use for the bucket.

You could make it salt water, then you couldn't use it for any of the old dead projects.

And then you would have to filter the salt water to get clean water.

Well, I'll sink my boat in a lake, not the ocean.

You know, last time I went to get a drink of water, I didn't have to sink a boat first.

I have a character with access to some water from the old days, just nothing to do with it. Sell it to people who want exotics?
I remember when water was still a resource...

And, of course, galleons would take much longer to sink then a longboat.

hmm, a new skill.... swimming.

Speed, not ability... or there could be a random buggerance where your charrie just... cant swim. it should affect your tiredness...

New object... Lifejacket? 100g cotton, bit o rubber, erm, gas to float it? i dunno, just something to replace "air" or... "foam" heheh...

New boat... Lifeboat?- like 1000g of wood, maybe a bit of iron?

Finally a use for clothing? Me likey. ;)

Though having a boat that doesn't require wood would be cool too. Purely rubber, maybe?
Besides, what's wrong with a dinghy as a lifeboat?

Dinghys have daggerboards and masts, plus they do weigh a bit... im talking about actually having a boat onboard, rather than docked to... and if so, keep the weight low...

But rafts don't float on seas, only on lakes.
