I take it you played old-school D&D*, then? 'Cause most current roleplaying games do indeed let you choose attributes. Not that I know what that has to do with this thread.
And for the record, I think the skilll list is a good idea. DEATH to all those "My skills"-notes. And the captain who asked for his crew's skills gets my approval. I count myself in the "try to ignore the skills" camp, but I'm not going to scold those that use it for what it's for.

Ok I'm all for that if it wern't for one reason...... previously Rped characters. Say take one of mine, I am trying to give him a childish persona, so I think of him as quite short (people pat him on the head) and quite smallish built. If I then find out he is a hulking brute is will pretty much completely muck up the RP

Yeah... It's going to be hard to explain my 6 ft tall big guy suddenly turning into a feather bag. This far I've explained it to me so that he's subconsciously holding back his strenght because he doesn't really want to hurt anyone. Awkward in fighting and low physical strenght, it's like the stars were against him.

And now you feel this is a problem?deadboy wrote:Ok I'm all for that if it wern't for one reason...... previously Rped characters. It has been shown that previous RP takes a back seat to "realism"... that is part of my problem with skills. But, as I have always said, if we have to have skills, make them visible. If not to others, then just to yourself... I have no problem with that (well, beyond the obvious...
