The Matrix vs. Lord Of The Rings
After seeing Lord Of the Rings - Return of the King last night I began talking to my friends about which they thought was better, the Lord of the Rings films or The Matrix films.
It was spilt down the middle, although we both agreed The Matrix Reloaded and Lord of the Rings - Return of the King were the best of each trilogy. But thats beside the point.
Whats your opinions?

I started reading LOTR after having devoured 100's of fantasy books. In the end they all looked a lot alike ands so when I read LOTR it thought " hey, I've read this 100's of times already". Too bad.
As for the Matrix, I thought matrix I was good. But when I saw the previews of matrix 2 it looked just like any action film. A lot of stupid moves by ubercool ppl in black coats. Hey, where did I see that before? And action movies are just not my style.
Actually, I dont watch movies at all anymore.

Why is this even a question? Lord of the Ring is one of the greatest fantasy books of all time. The movies, although not exactly like the books, were still really good. The first Matrix movie was awesome, but the second was just kinda.....lame. Cool special effects, but lame. The Two Towers was AWESOME. I haven't seen the third of either trilogy, so i can't say anything about them....why is this even a question, Lord of the Rings is the best...welll, in my opinion anyway

I just can't stop coming back....

You seriously think the second Matrix film was lame? I thought it was fantastic. And you should go see the third Lord of the Rings, it's brilliant too.
Best line in the film, Glimi - ''That still only counts as one!!!''
You'll understand when you see it, and then you'll laugh!

Yes, the second Matrix film was not even close to as good as the first. Sure, the fight scenes were cool, but when the whole entire movie is centered around the fight scenes it's got problems. I spent the entire movie waiting for more fight scenes...in the first movie, they made you want to find out things, learn about the matrix etc...In reloaded they didn't make you even care, and you hardly learned anything new. It was a lame movie, with cool fight scenes. As for Return of the King, I'm gonna see it, but first it has to come out here! We don't get it here till New Years

I just can't stop coming back....

Wether you like fantasy or not you can't deny that the LOTR trilogy are all amazing films. The amount of time and devotion put in them are probably higher then any other movie and I have mu doubts that such a huge project will ever been attempted again.
My view is that LOTR (I see them as one movie) is the best film ever made technically. I have seen movies with better scripts and actor performances, but Peter Jackson has done an amazing job.

I loved the Matrix. It was overall a phenomenal movie. It brought up some good philosophy, had great effects and fight scenes and had a great story. I felt like the second could have been as good. They touched on some interesting points about choice and the differences and similarities between the human mind and computers. But they could have done so much more with it. The interesting parts were completely pushed aside by the almost continuous fight/chase scene which made up 90% of the movie. Then there was all that crap in Zion which was mostly unnecessary. It was a good movie, but it had so much potential to be much better. I haven't seen the third yet.
As for LOTR, they do an amazing job of recreating the books. But I feel like I've heard it all before, becasue I have. That's the inherent problem with doing a movie directly based off a book. Still great movies though. Again, I haven't seen the third yet.

You'll crap your pants when you see the third LOTR. It is so amazing that it just makes me shiver to think of it. Pretty much the whole Matrix trilogy pales when compared to this one movie. I can't wait until LOTR comes out on DVD. As for Matrix. I have the first one on DVD but I am not going to buy the other two films. They aren't worth it and they didn't live up the first film. The storyline was really bad and the characters themselves weren't really even that good. The first film had a good storyline and the you could grow attached to the characters but the other movies you didn't care what happened to teh characters. You could see Neal die and would never shed a tear while watching Frodo slowly get worse and worse did make you shed a tear. I think that is the one major difference.
Great films and stories in general are the ones where you grow attached to the characters and feel their pain, feel their joy etc... There are very few stories that do that and LOTR is one of them. You grow attached to the characters and those characters take you on a journey. That is a great story.
