I like Yopo, who nobody knows probably, but he's one of my favorite, juse because he's so carefree...well kinda anyway. I also like Kyle Nimller, just because he's a bit gruff and always states his opinion and has almost died like three times because of it. :p

My traveling character is interesting to me because I get to see what types of societies exist, but unfortunately I don't get to see any of the significant events at these locations.
Exception to this I would say are the smaller islands. For example, on the K island the stories and politics are so intertwined that traveling around, you get a much better sense of what's going on throughout the island than you would otherwise.

Couldnt agree more. Its interesting to hear all of the "same" stories in the different towns, to find out they all have their own little variations, subject to the bais of the town, of course.

On a completely unrelated matter... are you the David in the programming department, and where did your posts go? If you arent, is "Meh" David? "Meh" messaged me, but Im not sure who he is, although his posts indicate he is probably David (the real one).

Meh is indeed David Goodwin.

I tend to play chars with big goals, and aims.
I like to have an original idea to try out and make work.
I guess I'm a bit the opposite of David (thread starter) because I like to build the dam and see how long it lasts, to borrow his analogy.

I have many different types of characters but tend to favor the independant, lone-wolf type the most.
I have quite few characters that have settled down.

5 of my 15 characters are also involved in romantic relationships...some more succesful than others :)

I like the characters most that are really involved in their area, but the problem is that they also take by far the most time to play, so some of my characters are exactly the opposite - living a very quiet life. Many of my characters act the way they do due to me lacking the time to play them more interestingly :) ...

My favorite character is Russell, just because I really like, well, him and everything he does :) ... He's also the most challenging to play, because I am all the time really seriously thinking about how to get his ideas working. I try to play the really prudent politician, but that's much more difficult than a really dumb politician ;) ...

Another favorite is a sailor, whose name I won't disclose because not as many people know I play him, and I like him because I wanted to play a sailor from the start and only managed after two years, with this guy :) ... And he is sailing to different islands, making among the best sailing maps around, etc., so he's kinda cool to play :) ... And being a sailor, you can have an interesting play, while you still don't have to spend that much time, as he's travelling usually.

My third favorite is in the Lad. empire and is really slowly, but finally, making a bit of a career there, and that's quite nice to play. And I like Lad. :) ...

All my other characters are a bit boring and often living in a really quiet place, or just travelling around, so that they do not cost me too much time.

Well, my favorite is to play a character that is really involved, and where it is really a challenge to play strategically well. So having a clear goal, and doing all you can to make it happen. Like Russell :) ...

The political theorist, the diligent worker, the trader, the founder, the schemer, the philosopher, the cripple... I like all of them. :)

I guess I tend to rate my characters on their psychological development, rather than their material success. So far, the most successful characters are also the most boring. Go figure.

I'm with Jos. My 2 fav chars really value the history of their people and area, and are completely into what is going on around them, with no regard to personal wealth.
I finally have a char who's life was saved by someone, and i'm having fun trying the whole "bound to you by honor" deal.
I also have a char that keeps running into bad luck, even though he just tries to live without getting caught up in anything. he saw a man in his 50's and has been following him around, with the idea that the old guy must know the secret to staying alive. unfortunately, he followed the old guy into an area where my char's name is associated with some of the bad luck I mentioned, so I'll have to see what happens. Poor bastard can't do anything right

Oooh, a long time ago I had this really fun char to play, cuz she was in prison and was trying to convince one of her fellow prisoners not to commit suicide. That was interesting...course, than it got even more fun when he was killed a little while after she convinced him :P
