Unlocking door cancels lock breaking project

Postby Missy » Mon Dec 22, 2003 2:57 am

I was wondering why lock picking projects arent haulted and canceled out when a person exits the building..thus using the door which would result in whoever was on the other side to have to stop?

As much as a person is to be able to pick a lock, the opposition should be able to stop the person from picking it.

I believe there should be a way for someone who is having their lock picked, to stop the person picking the lock from picking the lock. :)

Wouldn't unlocking your door and going outside do this?

I like that way better above. But suppose a tool could be used as well...:)

yea, that would be good, and a way to cancel the old projects that have been abandoned as well

The only problem with this is that criminals and such who are holed up in a building could just slip outside, attack, then slip back in. The people outside would have to start trying to break in again. Criminals who find a place to hole up would be invincible until their food supplies exhaust, but they would likely have killed enough people outside to outlive them all.

well, if someone is trying to break the lock, that means they are in your way for getting out, so maybe you could attack them, and only them, through the door, as a way of trying to fight your way through the door.

I don't think that would make them invincible. Deffinately more hard to catch. But thats whats is fun about the game. There would be ways of catching that person. Just have to know how to do it. And I don't know that ...it should completely hault the lock picking project...but perhaps knock the person doing it..off the project until the person can start up on it again. :)

But realistically if you are standing there picking my lock, and I unlock my door...you DONT have nothing to pick anymore..so it SHOULD stop the lock picking project.

of course, if you do that, they don't need to pick the lock anymore, and in RL would start trying to kill you and force their way past you through the open door

The locks are already messed up. You can pick a lock from outside, but you cant unlock it with a key? Theres been a lot of ideas about doors recently, I think it shoudl be a high priority of the Programming Dept to make doors separate objects.

or maybe you could bar a door. this would be a continuous project people on one side of the door preform, and while doing it someone on the other side couldn't get through. maybe with x people working on the project it would prevent x-1 people on the other side from getting through. this would allow people to temporarily lock someone up even if they didn't have a lock or if the people with the keys were sleeping. and you couldn't attack while barring a door so that it would be harder to abuse.
DOOM!
