I think that many ppl want to see how many posts others have, and this is somewhat activity indicator on the forum. Why to obscure that? Because some lame complaints like "hey, that guy have more post than me" etc? Those complaints are really lame IMO Now, look at guy with a style like me. More than 2000 posts. HEY! Don't you even try to obsure my post count! Obscure yourself, but don't touch mine. Those are mine! Now I can see my contribution to the forum and I can be proud of that 
And those comments like "yikes! I was not here only few hours, and you made more than 50 post in that time!" I love them 
And even if you would obcure that post count, that would not stop me, because someday someone would turn post count again, and then that would be a surprise
