Safe haven for chars temporary unactive?

Postby The Hunter » Sun Dec 21, 2003 7:44 pm

Someone recently asked what happens when a player is temporarily inactive. Well, the PD keeps your account active, but nothing more really. Since I am a Sailor i shall be gone for quite some time. I've stayed at home for the better last half of 2003 but after new year I expect to be at sea a lot again. Isnt there a possibility to create a sort of "location" where characters go to when the player is not active for a longer period of time and reports this to the PD? Like the famous "travelling"?

I fear that when my char's are inactive for about a month they either get killed or will have been starved to death. It's just impossible to have your characters stocked up with 10000 asparagus to survive.
Continuing playing cantr wouldn't B an option anymore. The time needed to get a new character going is just too much, and not even possible because i will rarely be home longer than a month.

Like a transcendental meditation to the point where you just sort of temporarily leave this plane of existence! Should be considered anyway. Or have a 'subsist' option where they can go into the wilderness and live off the land for a while :D

A good idea, but it would have to be very restricted to stop people from abusing it as a form oc tactics.

For example the players should be forced to set a date where the account is locked and during that time they can't log in.
Otherwise people could have their characters attack people and then "flee" into the "holiday dimension" until things cooled off.

"Holiday Dimension". I like that one.

And yeah, measures should be taken. Like a 2 weeks minimum, and without logging in during those 2 weeks ofcourse. Maybe also a minimum of a weeks notice before one can "enter" the holiday dimension? (Damn, that word gets better each time). 8)

An option might be to ask a friend to take care of your characters, temporarily. But you have to ask explicit permission from the PD to do so, otherwise it will probably be seen as a CR breach.

I did it once... But 1 of my characters was killed for inactivity even though I was away for abt 2 weeks only. No, when being away for more than 1 month I have little hope of more than 1/2 of my char's surviving.

If your chars are near shelter or have a friend that has a house, just ask if your char can stay there for awhile. Ask a friend of your characters to feed him/her periodically, make up some reason for the strange request :D

This is the best idea in my opinion. Something I was going to do during the summer but never had the time to set it up. The hardest part is finding someone who is a good role player and can understand the characters and play them well. I'd definitely look into this option.

Heh, I got grounded from the computer for a while, so I just called my girlfriend who has DSL, and had her read my char's pages and I told her what to do, kept her from making mistakes, and kept me informed of what was happening.

I'll be sailing soon, don't know exactly when, but it won't be long anymor ... Still not getting implemented?

I hate leaving for a while and when coming back seeing an empty char. page. *sniff*

Also, by letting someone else play, they willl see who my char's are, and I wanted to keep some a secret.
