Inactive Hoarders.

They're boring, and the most common. They don't really help advance the game at all.

I don't like ineffectual and cliched Councils. I'm particularly fond of the MacGregor system.

Ah yes, I've been killed by them twice. Quite effective that MacG system.

The cliched knight/clan is my least favorite. You're in, or out, In means you're golden and can do no wrong, out mean's you're tolerated unless you have something they want, or irritate them, or if your death would amuse them.

I've been on both sides of that In and Out, so I've got the perspective.

Perhaps even more disliked by myself would be the Beuaracracy(sp?). They try to say you have freedoms and rights but all you do is get permission and pass notes and now coins around and damn progress should anyone fall asleep.
Reality was never my strong point.

Yeah those are the ones I hate too. There's all these complicated laws and "rights" they pretend everyone has, but stay there long enough and you see that the rights really only apply to the leaders and their friends and the laws just make it impossible to get anything done.

At least with the MacGregors and Stone Knights and people like them you can take one look at the notes on the ground and leave right away, I don't like them either, but they don't pretend to be something they're not.

Beurocracies always seem to have more sleepers, too...half the time the only people a newspawn has to talk to are other newspawns and maybe like one guard who's awake every once and awhile. I"ve seen entire towns with sleepers standing around with swords and iron shields and keys to buildings and vehicles, but the newspawns can't even get an older character to give them bones for a shield.

If towns want new citizens they should be friendlier to newspawns...I see places that don't even allow you to gather anything but expect you to wait for someone in charge to maybe wake up at some point in the future and put you to work doing slave labour for a little food. If I have a character spawn somewhere and they aren't even allowed to do something as basic as feeding themselves I usually just start walking...those towns are designed for the orginal, older citizens anyway and will eventually rot as they all fall asleep one by one and there's nothing there to make new people want to stay.

My favorite kind of town is the one that lets everyone do whatever they want, except for the obvious stuff like attacking or stealing. They're just more relaxed and usually more talkative, and your char can actually accomplish something for themselves,

in the case of newspawns, they shouldn't -really- know what to think about that, though, right? Personaly, i find the ones that spawn and go all "This place is too controlled for me" and such are just making those types of governments more and more uninteresting. But that's due to poor rp on the players part. *shrug* (poor rp being my opinion)

Hope that made sense.. I'm tired.

It all depends on circumstances, of course, but the sleepy ones are a pain, if they have multiple laws.

Govenments? Hah, there's only anarchy... I hate the ones that are started by idealistic newspawns who have absolutely no resources or leading skills but feel like they have to make a set of laws since there wasn't one when they spawned.

Oh, the reason I like it is because of pulp I can make of your characters

Seriously though, it replicates the history of society much better than these other governing organizations. People survived first by banding together, not sparing everyone the same liberties and rights. These ideals only really became clear during the Enlightenment, and even then, still many people lived on the "outside" rim of society.

I think it's silly to start from the modern day and go back in terms of society simulating, or to even pick it up from today, considering the resource implementations being too various.

Personally, It really depends on the character I'm playing.

One in Seatown actually enjoys being able to sit quietly and contribute his efforts to the community, with the leader overseeing everything. It's less mentally draining to figure out "what now?" when he can just browse the projects and join in. Leaves him time to jsut chat periodically.

I've never met the McGregors really, so don't know the details of that type of organization, but I really enjoy the freeform "everyone be nice" the most.
The worst is the ones with about 5,000 rules about who can gather what resource, on even days, who can hunt on odd-tuesdays when there is a boat visible on the horizon, and other such incomprehensible rules. Yuck!

Granted, I'm experimenting with making one of those types of groups myself, but I wrote the rules as an experiment to see if/how others blindly follow them.

My character runs a beurocracy, and in their defense, most of the citizens never bother to excercise their rights (I'm guessing because they're either lazy, or biased by an OOC assumption that they'll be stomped on or ignored)

The biggest problem about them is that quiet charries get lost in the system because they don't stand out. The biggest strength is that all those laws allow you to do things like, say, kill a sleeping leader for his keys legally. In a happy go lucky system, said leader would just be allowed to exist while the town was crippled (probably with some goody twoshoes feeding him the whole time too!)
