You know how it says:
1474-1.19: You are hungry.
Well perhaps it could say:
1474-1.19: You are very hungry.
when a character's hunger is >=50%, and:
1474-1.19: You are extremely hungry!
when a character's hunger is >=90%.

Could it also show up in the character description? This person looks thin/very thin/starved.
Also see my previous suggestion for expressing hunger and damage through background colour.

It's a good idea, nice thinking. I'd program it in if you wanted!
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:
"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

I like the idea of catagorized hunger levels, but really dislike the coloured text.
But I can see saying "you are very hungry" would save a page click if you were travelling or sailing and trying to save food. It would be a quick indicator of "I'm ok for another day" or "I really need to eat soon before I die".
For those of us on dialup, saving a page-click is often the difference between using two minutes and using up four just to check on a travelling character to see if there is a reply to an important conversation or just boring food-notices.
