'tis laggy indeed - we are looking into it .
but the number of queries reported is to build the page , so it includes logging and then getting all the info about you as a player, and displaying it , then checking all your characters to report where they are, what your character calls it, what is it doing, and has anything new happened since the last time you checked . The number of queries is fine - the time taken is the bad part

For UK players like you, yes ... It seems that it's worse for us that for Americans - the lag is worst around certain hours. I'm tracking stats at the moment to get a better picture.
I still have little of a clue what is really happening, hence I don't really know the solution yet. This issue is bothering me hugely, but ... well ... what can I do as long as I don't understand what's happening?

My expereince suggests that the last hour or two before eating, which is also close to minutes reset and the hour or too afterwards are worse...
Maybe thats because reset is now at a time when both sides of the world can be playing in force...??

Yes! Perhaps not responsible for all the lag, but we determined once before that new minutes are best some time around 12 am Pacific Time, so therefore most of the world will get their new minutes when they wake up in the morning, or at least some time during the morning of the new day. I play at around 2 hours ahead of GMT--ie 2 hours east of GMT--which is close to the Poles, more or less, and this currently means that my peak evening playing time is quite close to the minutes reset and very badly lagged.
