How about Galleons riding over the top of the dinghy. That's more fun and you can avoid the long docking time.

Maybe we have different ideas of a longboat Cross?

Vikings anyone?

Oh my, it seems Crosshair is right! At least according to Wikipedia.
Wikipedia wrote:The longboat should not be confused with a Longship; nor with a narrow boat.
In the days of sailing ships, a vessel would carry several boats for various uses. One would be a longboat, an open, primarily rowing, boat with eight or ten oarsmen, two per thwart.

Wikipedia wrote:Longships or the bigger drakkar ship were boats used by the Scandinavian Vikings and the Saxons for their raids on coastal and inland settlements during the European Middle ages. They were the epitome of Scandinavian military power at that time, and they were highly valued as material possessions.

Though I guess the Cantr longboat is in fact intended to be a longship...

Well - can someone explain to me to which exactly kinds of ships are related
skimmer, soarer, raker and darter - or this is only Cantr names? This makes me problem when I try to translate...

I'm sure someone from RD made some of those up.

Either that, or they're so into sailing that they know really obscure boats that aren't mentioned anywhere else on the 'net...

Well, dinghty should dock to dinghty. But anyway, then we lost posibility to make suicidal run with notes we can't destroy because of uneditablity and we don't want to other chars to read ;]

If you want to give an edge to the darter, have it only be dockable to by other darters, then. ;)
I approve of this idea.

I must disagree with you here, sorry! :D
I think, this is why I disagree, that Cantr has made docking an almost 'in doors' thing. As in, you actually drive your ship inside the larger ship, that is why there is a heirarchy of ships.
That's also why Dinghys can't dock to Dingys, it's not like you're throwing a rope to the next ship, a dinghy is actually entering the Galleon or the Longboat I think, that's also why when your longboat is docked to a harbour, and the dinghy to the longboat, no one inside the harbour can hear you. And it's also why when you undock from the longboat, you have to literally wait ages to be outside the longboat, then redock (the dinghy) in to the habour.

But that's a programming thing. The idea may not be practical, but if it is, I'm all for it.

It would not be at all difficult to have a dinghy dock to a dinghy in the usual way. They would not be treated equally once docked - the docked dinghy would behave as if it were a room of the other dinghy, etc. - but while that might not be very realistic it would not be a problem for programming.

Today one of my hero will die in dinghy in the midle of the sea.
So we should do dinghy docks to dinghy.

And what other dinghy would you be docking to/be docked to by? That doesn't make sense to me.

The point is that (given infinite time) the game will eventually fill up with dinghys manned by corpses that can't be recovered. Something needs to dock to a dinghy, under the prinicple that everything in Cantr should be accessable somehow.

If deterioration of vehicles/vessels is implemented that will take care of that problem, perhaps.
