Penda Flex! Memorex! Duracell!

Postby Coramon » Thu Mar 02, 2006 6:38 am

I've been looking at some of the charachters that my characters know. These 3 share one thing in common. They are all brands of things found in an office. I saw Pendaflex, on a box in my dad's office, and that was a nasty shock. Who is naming all their charachters these cruddy names? And what the f*ck is wrong with you?

Damn these people without imagination for their names. How is Raistlin doing by the way?

(Maybe that was spelled Caramon...)

Or maybe it's Coromon from Digimon?

How about starting a think tank for new Cantrian names? Since some of us can imagine more names that they can create characters, and another ones have a hard time coming up with anything.

Its Caramon. I spelled it wrong. And none of my charries are named after real things. Now whenever I pick up the books I'm shocked by the spelling of Caramon. lol.

http://www.behindthename.com/random/ <Nifty random name generator.

I've never actually used that to name a cantr character, but it's fabulous when playing The Sims and such.

Kofi Kwesi, that's my ambigious African Goth name.

Alright, Cathal Zosimus!

CATHAL

Gender: Masculine

Usage: Irish

Pronounced: KA-hal [key]
Derived from the Gaelic elements cath "battle" and val "rule". This was the name of a 7th-century Irish saint.

ZOSIMUS

Gender: Masculine

Usage: Ancient Greek (Latinized)
Latinized form of Ζωσιμος (Zosimos), a Greek name derived from ζωσιμος (zosimos) meaning "viable" or "likely to survive". This was the name of several early saints and a pope.

One of my now dead characters was called Aedh Cathal. :)

A few of my characters have RL meainings to their names...

For example one was my boss's name and I played her like an a$$hole, although she mellowed.

But I don't understand the snobbiness of this. If someone is named after a battery, so what, it can bear no relation to the character played. It's much better a random product name that than some people who create a number of charracters with a little variation on the same name...

I appreciate that some people find some pleasure in extensively researching names and choosing the character names in that way. I don't agree with it myself.

I doesn't work if you name your character Rockard the Barbarian, spawn with no fighting skills and have to end up an asparagus farmer...

Sometimes I wish I could wait a year before naming a character, but that just isn't possible... it all goes back to surmising what skills abilities and personality your character developed in the 20 years before they spawned..

Actually, I have a character that is 24 and still does not have a name. Even on my character page the name shows up as "?".

I bet (s)he is the life and soul of the party!

Some towns arrest you if you dont give a name within a short space of spawning, you cant do much character development rotting in jail...

(*waits for bucketloads of people to tell me that jail is the perfect place for a character to develop personality*)

Actually I've had pretty good success with the character. When someone asks his name he just says he doesn't have one. But, he's definitely not a leader.

I started a character with no name intentionally, and am playing him as a mentally "Slow" person. (no offense to mentally challenged folks!)
About the third day after he spawned, and giving blank stares when asked for his name (or repeating hte person's name who asked), the others in the area gave him the name he now uses for himself.

It was a fun little bit of RP, and helped mold the character's personality a lot!

yeah that happened with one of my charris (now dead  shame) who spoke backwards, he was called semaj (james) and wasn't meant to have a last name, but people named him James Backwards, it was quite annoying!

I'm thinking I'll start naming any new characters based on what my spam filter catches. Today's winners (if I was adding to my character load, which I am not) would be:

Darren R. Tran
Ricky Milligan
Clifton Gibson
Michael DuHaime, RNC Political Director
Krystal McCann
BArton Acevedo
Jamar Childs
Donnell Molina
Lindsey T. Hooper
Southern Computer Warehouse
Queue, Inc.
and
GE Appliances

Nothing wrong with GE Appliances.
