Yes bone and other material tools and weapons are a good idea. Do you think the game could improve by adding other things as well though like when using a fire pit something to light it with. Also if you did have something to light it with you could burn down silly buildings that some players use to make messages. Also i think resources that are used on projects should be able to be removed for example if someone started a building that was of bad taste but didnt start building it you could remove the project and the stone would fall back into your inventory.

that makes sence since if it hasn't started being built it's only a pile of stone or wood sitting on the ground

You have to careful with that. I don't think you should be able to get the resources back and I think ending the project should take some time and effort. Otherwise, someone could steal the 9000g of wood you spent a cantr year and a half gathering for your cottage. Even if you made the resources go to the initiator, you would run into problems. For instance, lets say you wanted to build a bike and you had everything you needed in the project except rubber so yyou went off to get some. Anybody could come in and take your iron and steal. If you don't get the resources back there would be no reason to end other people's legitemate projects like this and it should take some effort to prevent the malicous from doing it anyway.

Do you think a normal gathering rate would apply where half is lost?

So if there was an old building with 25000 stone, with no tools you could remove 750 in a day but you would only get 375.

Should it have a chance of sucess and have an annocement like lockpicking?

maybe set a time frame on it so that if nobody has added to the building or worked on it for a certain period of time it can be ripped down.

How long?

If someone left to gather more it could take them up to 60 days to return.

true but if we left it as only buildings that could be brought down this way.bikes and things your would ruin the iron and steel too much to get anything usefull. and set it at say 4 years or so ?
and yu don't get out all the materials used as some would be damaged by weather and time or the such

80 days hmmm

What about a sliding scale. The project is safe for five days times the amount of resource days in it.

7500 stone would be safe for 50 days.
3000 wood would be safe for 50 days.

19 or less of stone or 8 or less of wood would be safe until the next cantr hour.

and then what happens? The project ends? I'm guessing after the project is no longer "safe" the materials don't just disapear? when they aren't sae they are free to be taken?

oh i see, yea, maybe after the safe period ends it starts decreasing, and can be removed at the same rate as a collectionf project, or maybe faster as it isn't stuck in the ground or anything
