Bed sores/sleeping disease/inactivity

Postby Missy » Wed Mar 01, 2006 4:13 pm

People die after what? Two weeks of inactivity?

We have the sleeping sickness, why not utilize it? For every three days that a person is inactive, give them .5 % dammage. Consider it a bedsore from sitting still for so long.

Activity could be considered anything from speaking, to looking at a note, to participating in a project, going inside of a building/out, travelling down a road, picking up an object from the ground, just so long as that character does "something." The something doesn't neccessarily have to be obvious to other characters. IE looking at a note wouldn't be obvious at all.

But the fact that they didn't get the .5% damage for sleeping would be obvious to others or at least detectable :)

And why damage ? why not "you hear a man in his sixties snoring" ?

Umm, no. :? What about people who leave for a week and thik they'll be fine (in a relatively peaceful area, of course). BLAM, they're punished for not playing!

Do post a problem that this would solve, and I might be convinced...

Well this is just an idea in the works. I never said I had all the quirks worked out.

Maybe they would implement that other people could "roll" the character. Thus the character doesn't get the dammage.

Then We have a use for the doctor profession, because we sure don't have one due to the sneezing disease. Imagine in a town of 30 people? Doctor comes out to see that there's several people with .5 dammage. So they then begin to roll everyone/move people inside the hospital. Currently, there's little reason for people to go out and check on other characters/for other characters to be concerned about someone with dammage, because dammage doesn't increase on it's own for any reason.

Let's give it a reason to do so, and a reason for someone to say "Hey, I'm worried about him, let's take him to the hospital so the medic/nurse/doctor/whatever can keep an eye on him." And, a reason for people to actually have inactivity, even! "I don't feel so good." *Walks into the doctors office.* "I feel sleepy."

We wanted to increase the value of life at one point. Sneezing disease was introduced, but its not really something that effects characters too badly. Even so, it doesn't affect everyone. We need something that can affect anyone, at any time, all over cantr.

Sleeping does currently affect things, but not in the right way.

Add snoring too if you want, but there needs to be a reason for other characters to try and save the character, thus the dammage.

Edit

This also might add incentive for those who let their characters sleep for no reason, to actually wake them up.

I remember we were looking for a solution to sleeping people a while ago. So we just decided that peoples accounts would time out. But that doesn't work for those of us who continually play. We know when the cut off date is and so we can prevent that from happening, but still let our chars sleep.

Edit 2

Remember Taowyn? Quay Leque? How those characters stayed alive as long as they did, I don't have a friggen clue.

*grumble grumble*
Well, it's still esentially an in-game "disease" that punishes people for having a life outside Cantr. (I'd like to point out that I don't, so I'm not trying to save myself here.)

/Hellzon - still negative
