New skill level
I think we need a new skill level: Master. This can't be gained automatically when you spawn, but rather from years of hard work. If you start out expert on something, you can't get any better at it. That is completely unrealistic.
All of my endings are waiting to begin.

"You Masterfully hit a mountain goat with a toilet seat which looses 40 strength"
I like that. I think it's a good idea. It rewards those who are really dedicated to what they do.

Skill level descriptions cover a range of skill ability . If you start at the bottom end of Expert there is a lot of improving you can still do. There is still a maximum level you can reach but Expert covers a large range.
As do the other 4 descriptions.
We could change the descriptors to cover 6 instead of 5 equal intervals but quite honestly I personally don't really see the need and people are used to the existing system.

I like it, someone can be spawned an 'expert' (?) It would be good to have some indication that, no matter what your talents are, you can increase futher than that...
Maybe take the top-end of what is currently 'expert' and re-name it. Keep the other skills as they are currently distibuted, but have the new skill only covering a very small range, so, once you're there you know there's very little more improvement you can do...
Actually, strike that... in fact, just get rid of the skills system, I never liked it in the first place. to MUD-y - blergh...

Yes, the skills are both important to the game, and yet, they are not...
The great thing about this game is RP and talking to other characters, right? For that, no skills are needed but your own imagination.
But in order to give some feeling of having a uniqe character and not just a clone of the same newspawn model, the skills are very important. In my experience so far, only a few areas of expertice are really powerful. I am of course mainly refering to the fighting skill, wich holds the key to life or death sometimes...
I can't see how the game wouldn't benefit from the skill levels, in fact, I wouldn't mind if there were like 10 levels of skill determination. Not saying that it needs to be an even greater difference between "akward" and "expert", just more levels...

Not having played for more than three real-life weeks or so, I don't have a huge in-game experience with skills. However I have already noticed one of my characters who was awkwardly doing something is now novicely doing it.
With that in mind, I like the general concept of a high-end skill level which is only attainable through in-game work.
The decision of what to call it, Masterfully, Artisan-esque, Divinely, etc is of course up the the final decision makers. But the idea of having a skill level unattainable at spawning due to "lucky genetics" is of great RP benefit.
While it has been mentioned there is a large span for "Expert" for those characters who begin with a high degree of skill in one field, it still would make those veteren players feel good to see their hard work pay off by reading a different word as they "Max out".
In real life, even someone who practices daily on a particular skill, will reach soem point where they notice "You know, I'm darn good at this, and don't think I could improve much better readily". This would fit the level of "Master" mentioned, and provides a tangible accomplishment usable in RP situations.

It doesn't mean highly skilled, A master in craftsman's terms is one who has sufficient skill that they can act as an employee and train apprentices and journeymen. It describes their authority and not their abilties.
Well Chris, it says you "Masterfully" do something. It does not mean you are a master at it, it just says you are good enough to be. And typically a master is at the top of their profession, correct? So really it wouldn't be a misuse of the word, if you look at it right.
All of my endings are waiting to begin.
