Dinghy docks to dinghy
Simple enough.
Nothing currently docks to a dinghy, which could be a problem.
The only one I see at the moment are dinghies floating about with dead passangers, but I'm sure there are more potential issues.

I'm for this; it would seem to be the easy, no-unintended-consequences solution to balancing piracy we've all been looking for. Much as I love to poke holes in ideas, I don't see a downside to this one; call for speedy implementation.
Incidentally, I believe this should only affect dinghies, and possibly also rafts and rowing boats. The darter is expensive enough to deserve a little edge of this sort.

Actually, I think everyting should be dockable to by something else (a boat of the same size/the same kind of boat, at the least), to prevent the case of small boats that can never be retrieved. If you want to give an edge to the darter, have it only be dockable to by other darters, then.
Other than that, I approve of this idea.
/Hellzon - You there! Implement! Now!

Hey, I like TatteredShoeLace's idea. Unrealistic, I guess, but cool. Also, rubber raft might be a nifty idea, as in "a ship that doesn't require large amounts of wood".
Something else that came up in the mess of nerves I call a brain:
What if we kept plain docking as it is now, but added "boarding". Basically, any ship can dock to any other with a grappling hook. This should have a chance of failing, of course, so if one side is unwilling, they have a chance to get away. If, on the other hand, both sides are willing or one ship is unmanned, it works eventually.
Well, just some random ramblings. I'll be off now...
/Hellzon - going, going, gone!

Also, it is only logical that a Galleon candock with a Galleon... any ship can dock with any ship really, if you think about it.
Longboats are actually launches from bigger boats, so it would be good if you could have a longboat inboard instead of docked to your bigger ship.
