Copper wires in grams instead of items

Postby SekoETC » Tue Feb 21, 2006 10:29 am

Umm... now that I think about it, it might be rather hard to make real without any machine being in question. But... how about having projects for a coil of copper wire, that's like the lenght of ten wires in one project, and when it's done, the outcome is in grams instead of being a bunch of similar items. One of my characters is in a location ideal for starting a market for copper wire, but I can see it turning into a monster if you have all the pieces separately, like bowstrings. I can understand bowstrings since they have heads that are different from the middle lenght, but copper wire in real life is made in large coils...

It was easiest to do it that way at the time. :)

(Thats becous you'r to buisy complaning about the problem and not fixing it)

IM ALL FOR IT!!!! in fact, ALOT MORE STUFF SHOULD BE IN GRAMS, AND OTHER THINGS SHOULD BE ITEMS.. like wood, should start as a tree, then you cut it doun, theres a large log on the ground(DONT YOU SAY ANYTHING ABOUT LOGS!! YEA, I KNOW WHAT YOUR THINKING!!!) and then you can cut it up into smaller logs, or you can use a tryangle thing to just split it in half by pounding the tryangle into the log to make a few spetial, flexibal logs, and then you can make a boat, but this boat will be better becous it has flexibal logs.

Apply for staff, mate. You come fix it.

Oh my, time to make a stone hammer. Cutting timber without an axe....then peel the bark and work the wood down to a shaft for the hammer....lets make the stone hammer take 3 years to make. No.

and then you can cut it up into smaller logs, or you can use a tryangle thing to just split it in half by pounding the tryangle into the log

(called a wedge)

to make a few spetial, flexibal logs, and then you can make a boat, but this boat will be better becous it has flexibal logs.

This makes absolutely no sense. No sense.

All in all I think bowstrings and copper wires are fine as is. RD is talking with Jos on stacking coins and possibly other things that don't deteriorate, like copper wires. But this is not something we need to worry about right now. Stackability will make this better, but its bearable right now.

DAMN POPUPS RUINED MY TYPING!!! GGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG!!!!!!!

I ment that by splitting the longs instead of cutting them, that would makde them more flexible, and if you made a boat out of these flexeble peaces of a tree, then that boat would be better.(Just to tell you, vickings made their boats like this, and their boats were AWESOME LIKE FAST!!!)

and i did apply for staf. BUT I WASENT EXEPTED!!!!!

But... now that i think about it, having copper wires being in grams Is a little bad. copper whiers should be mesured by lenght, and then after a wile, it will break in half or somthing, and then you will have to sodder it together... or somtin.

*sigh* No. Copper wires will not be breaking in half anytime soon.

And I could make a safe bet as to why you've not been accepted.

Show me some proof on this "viking" wood. I don't want anyone to settle this, I want Pie to show me he can support his suggestions with facts. Please. A link or wiki of some sort would be appreciated.

*sigh* alright. I will. I just have to say, why dosent anyone ever believe me just becous you'v never herd of it? i mean, is it so hard to believ that I know somthing that you don't? I mean, everyone has there strong points.

oh, and if you need me to explain why wood is easyer to bend when split rather than just cut, then its easy. When splitting wood using a wedge, you are seperating the tree, going with the fibers, rather than just cutting them.

*waits wile he does an online serch*

Boy that took a loooong time.

and only one thing at that. I really need to do better searches.

:D A very nice find. I'm glad you could prove to me its real, it only adds to your credibility.

Unforunately it seems very similar to the current longboat. But perhaps using the wedges to split could become a new project for creating logs from timber?

I live in a world, far from anything that the englishmen would call civilised, where there is no copper. Therefore I haven't experienced the problem, but it seems kinda awkward to have Wires in pieces. I mean...just imagine:

"Hey buddy, hand me over a piece of that wire"

A man in his twenties gives you a piece of wire

"Ah dam, too short, give me another one, I'll just solder it together...wait...there is no soldering in this game."

Make it in meters...or grams, just that in this case it's called meters...or centimeters, however you want it. Instead of making 100g you make 100cm. Can't be hard to do can it? Just rename the unit it is produced in.

I tend to RP the copper wires as small coils. Since my char only knows the size needed for the radio, all the wires he creates are suitable for radio use. Its not too bad.

I should delete half of this thread now.....

The big issue is that a machine is needed to make resources, while objects can just be setup to be contructed. There wasn't really a machine that we felt was exactly suitable for the project, though having it done at the worktable (aka stone table) could seem reasonable.
