Why should only those three 'main' religions be respected?

There are millions of Buhddists and Hindus. In fact, there are more hindus than Jews:



I'm nut suggesting that all religions be respected - not at all. I don't really respect any religion. But I would never deny them their right to stand up and say what they like, however much it is disrespectful of my own beliefs (i.e: why should I respect religions, when they don't repsect my sexuality?)

You can disrespect relegions, just keep your thoughts to yourself. And relegions not respecting your sexuality is another whole issue.

Do you not realize you're here shouting about people disrespecting your religion, but in saying what you just said, you've disrespected countless others? You're saying that it would be alright to draw a cartoon about me because I believe in something beside the three you mentioned.

Your religious belief that there should only be three respected religions, is not the religious belief of everyone else. You're saying that our beliefs, those that aren't "Islam, Christianity, Juddhism" should not be respected and aren't legitimate (pissing on them,) while you want us to believe that noone should piss on muhammed er "Islam, Christianity, Juddhism " This was first a "People should be respectful to other peoples religious beliefs." I thought?



So which is it? Do you really believe people should respect other peoples religious beliefs or is it only "some" religous beliefs that "should" be respected?

You didn't literally say that other religions aside for "Islam, Christianity, Juddhism " should actually be disrespected. You did however use the word "Only" implying that no other religions should be respected. Implying that, doesn't leave very many options.

May i just ask, concerning the protests in London recently about Cartoons featuring Mohhamed, people carrying placards saying "behead those who disrespect islam" etc, one person dressing as a suicide bomber, (for which later he publicly appologised for) is this how the majority of Muslims reacted? perhaps not to a violent or degree such as that, but a question to followers of Islam on these forums, how offended were you? I ask this out of curiosity, as i know hardly any Muslims and the BBC, whilst being a font of information, can be misleading.

I ask this out of curiosity, as i know hardly any Muslims and the BBC, whilst being a font of information, can be misleading.

There was a rally yesterday in London, a peacful one, thousands did turn up. Although not a huge protest by any stretch, it was far larger than the one you mention, with the calls for violence. The violent reaction is not the mainstream reaction (In the UK at least)

One thing I've been wondering - how have people managed to get hold of a Dansih flag on the gaza strip? I doubt that until last week many people even knew what the Danish flag looked like...

Some would. Some wouldn't. I think most of liberal america would be outraged, but to busy to protest. And hardcore america would get its guns ready. The rest of the world... I have no idea.

Speaking as a non religious Englishman, i would say that my mother (being staunch Protestant) said "if Jesus was in it, we'd just turn the other cheek" well... my father (Staunch Atheist) thought it all rather silly as it just made Islam look worse.

I think most of liberal america would be outraged, but to busy to protest.

I think most "religious" Christians consider themselves conservative, not liberal. Of course, I have many liberal Christian friends but they are in the minority.

As far as protesting heresy, etc. It would depend on the context. I wouldn't protest a newspaper for heresy or even an individual. In fact, I see heresy quite regularly, that's going to happen when you have freedom of speech. But, I would consider some type of protest if the church engaged in heresy.
