Maybe make it a project like dragging. Except it takes two people to "interact" with each other. So kind of like dragging you would be preparing to do it, but it won't happen until another person or "the person joins you."
Make sure you remember to program for opposite sexes. I don't even want to hear the horror stories that unfold when this first comes up of same sex babies.

I think it would be fun to role play too, but I imagine it would get very stale after a while. I know it's been mentioned before, but I really think that children should age at a much faster rate than adults. At least 4 times faster.......that would still take 5 Cantr years to reach adulthood. Heck, how about 5x's faster. That's almost three months real time. (Still sounds too long.) At the normal rate, it would take 400 days.

But that wouldn't leave much time for the ones who would really like to play as a child...
But as someone said earlier, the baby could be sort of like an object during the first years of it's life.
It could be programmed to cry once in a while and would take up much of the parents (or whoever raises the childs) time.
When skills are implemented the parents (or...) could try to educate the child in different ways during the early childhood.
This way they could form the character a bit. (not all though).

I think babies should be playable, at least in a limited way, from birth, so that they can be properly intergrated into their hometown and get a good feel for the culture of their town.
And I think that you would be able to do most things at age 10, but still not be strong enough or be able to do everything to match a full grown 20 year old, but nearly all functionality would be there, so it would take 200 days to mature, not forgetting you would be able to do many things before then, so it's not as bad as it seems I don't think

But during the first two years, a child really doesn't do much and would be very hard to RP.
And people doesn't remember things from that time either
Some parents might decide that they can't raise the child and leave it do die (a horrible thing, but not uncommon in the past), or just neglect it.
During this time such decisions wouldn't effect any players.
It would also leave room for some good RP experiences.
The child could be adopted/abducted and when the player takes over the child at perhaps the age of two or three, they wouldn't know that they are raised by someone else than their parents.
This could come as a rather nasty surprise later on in the game, or they will live their lives not knowing the truth...
Well, it's just an idea

I agree that children should grow pretty quickly for at least the first five years of their life.
(Heck those years seem to fly by for parents most of the time anyways...lol)
And I think the player should be able to make the baby interact to an extent "ALWAYS"
I think maybe the talk button should be removed from the screen for a person playing a baby from age 0-1 and be replaced with emoticons. Such as Cry-whine-sniffle-cough-sneeze-wiggle-spit up That way the player can still make the child interact and it will STILL be part of the childs personality. Perhaps the player will decide the baby doesn't much care for its dad as much as its mum so ..the player makes the baby cry every time the dad is around. lol
Then after the child hits 1 years old the talk bar should be re-introduced but with a maximum limit of words that can be typed seeing as how 1 year olds cannot say usually more than one word at a time. Such as "Dada" or "Mumum" etc..
And as the child hits 2-3 the talk bar should be allowed to have a few more characters added. Because children gradually learn to speak more as their age increases. But at this age it is still not very much...Maybe a three-four word limit per each message.."wanna eat" lol
I'd hate to have a character that I could not have interact in SOME sort of way.

I canny beleive I didnt think of that I LOVE the idea of the cry sniffle buttons etc! Absolutely brilliant but what about you get more buttons gradually. like you start with "cry", then a few days later you get "cry, whine, sniffle" then a day or two later you get "cry, Whine, sniffle, laugh" and so on. It would add great rp cos it would be like wow look he laugh now etc etc.

"The evelutionary purpose of any organism is really just to reproduce when you get right down to it. The only organisms that survive are the ones that can make more of themselves and that's evolution summed up all nice. In that light, both males and females are equally tools in the continuing of their species regaurdless of what role they play in it."
Not the amount that are born. It's the amount for the species to best sustain itself in its enviornment. If we reproduced liked inscects, the planets resources would have been depleted thousands of years ago. Often there is a population density/quality trade off with species development.
Sorry, off topic. Having children would be a good feature to implement.

Nature or rather evolution cares nothing for the environment. Mammals have less offspring because of the resources involded to create and raise a mammal.
Nature/Evolution let all and anerobic life take a back seat after some of them created too much oxygen for all of them to function on a global scale.
Evolution is not a friend. It is change in it's purest form. Change for it's own sake.
