I know it's no fun for the people that are having to deal with this, but from a strictly observational perspective this whole situation strikes me as pretty interesting. Has there ever been a serious food shortage in Cantr? I mean, the kind that would make towns finally stop leaving giant piles of meat on the ground to rot, and then later start kicking out newspawns...or even sharpening their sabers and casting jealous glances at the neighboring village's food supply?

It would probably cause too much damage in the long run, but as a temporary thing I admit it's kind of neat to see the status quo shaken up a bit.

And yes, I know this was caused by a bug and will hopefully be fixed soon, but since I'm not the one with characters on the line I'm able to sit here (maybe a tiny bit smugly) and fondly recall all the threads I've seen in Suggestions asking for natural disasters...

The Polish players rioted when gathering limits were implemented, and I've heard the situation is pretty bleak in the Esperanto area.

I can't wait to get a character in the Esperanto area. Gotta hand it to Jos, I never imagined I'd be this eager to learn a language that I'll never, ever have a reason to use at any point in RL until I discovered Cantr. :)

Not so much a food shortage , but when tiredness was first being introduced at much higher levels than now, coupled with the initial outbreak of the sneezes it felt like a battle to survive , trying to harvest enough food whilst avoiding attacks by wild boar . I kind of miss those days in a way :) They did make things more interesting .

In fact, Akypor was hit by precisely such a situation when the gathering limits were imposed, and we did in fact have starving refugees arriving in the forests, where we looked after them and fed them. That's why New Xanth sent a group to Akypor to build a potato harvester....turned out to be the second one by then. That part was fine, and it bore out my analysis that the "democracies" in Cantr are much weaker and less able to look after themselves during crises than the communal or clan-based polities.

The problem now however, is that these recent adjustments are penalizing the high-tech forest-based cultures. Potato salad just doesn't cut it in many areas, I'm afraid. There are certain people in the GAC, I think, who could do with a spanking. The bronze debacle deserved six of the best (does anyone know what that means anymore?), followed by absurdly complicated "stone quarries" and now the total inability to understand that not everybody lives in Siom or Drojf when it comes to food needs (but again I'm not opposing the general idea).

Baked or boiled potatoes are essential. They musn't argue, just do it.

The Book of Jos Chapter 14 wrote:
And Jos decreed that animals of the earth and the birds of the sky should have individual lives, like those possessed by the myriad peoples of Cantr. At his command, the herds, packs and flocks of creatures were rent asunder and the animals were no longer tied to others of their type, but were free to come and go as they pleased.

But all was not well in the lands after this, many animals took their new found liberty and fled to the roads , not to be seen again, Other creatures became victims of a new set of mysterious gates all over the lands, which allowed animals to enter new places, but only leave through one exit, and were forced from their homelands. And there was an almighty culling by the people of the Lands as they smote many creatures in a frenzy .

The people of the lands gave great lamentations to the powers , Oh lord where are our animals ? Why have they forsaken us? These cries were heard across the world, save for the lands of the French who gave great praise for the disappearance of the creatures which preyed on them .

And the Lord Jos saw and was not pleased , and commanded his servants to find a solution .

Jos's servants in ProgD set limits on the Cantrians so that their hunting would be restricted, then travelled through the land smiting the mysterious gates so that animals could once again , choose freely their destinations, and walk, crawl or fly through the world unhindered .

But even with these actions, the great counting of the wildlife showed that many animals had disappeared from the world , and at first there was no trace of them , then a sound was heard, and low , hiding in near the roads of the lands, in bushes and behind hills, traces of the missing animals were found, a spoor here , a feather there . The servants of Jos followed this trail and discovered the missing animals , 45 of every hundred, cowering in fear.

The new found freedoms bestowed upon them had driven them mad and they had fled for the roads to hide. In their panic they had shed there forms and left no trace of what type of animal they were, just where they had come from and where they were going.

The servants known as ProgD , sat with the lost animals and decided on what should be done. They then brought forward each spirit and showed them all the animals which currently lived in the places where the spirit came from and was heading. From the countless forms before them , each spirit was allowed to choose a type, and a new body was created for that spirit to dwell.

Soon all the missing animals had their new forms and were set on their way down the roads. Half of these were encouraged to turn about and
return to whence they came from.

Over the days to come, the animals will finish their journeys , emerging from the roads and their places of hiding . And Jos saw this and was pleased.

Bascially the animal populations (size and distribution) should right themselves over the next week or so.

1) It should not be all that easy to live in a forest... hence we have no RL cities in forests...
2) There is nothing complicated about the stone quarry. There was an issue with the distribution of timber, that is all...
3) Maybe if your character wasn';t such a complete ass, people would be more willing to help you? :P

I know. I live here too, you know... :P

That was suggested before actually, the limited resource thing... I disagreed with it at the time... but maybe it wasn't so bad after all?
