I heard that the Amish were allowed to have electronics as long as they weren’t connected to the power grid. Batteries and generators and that sort of thing, but it's likely I'm wrong, I don't even remember where I heard that.
Then again I wouldn't be surprised to find out that different groups of the Amish have different opinions about stuff like that.

I was up near Cleveland, OH a couple of weeks ago and the area I was in is a densely Amish populated area. It was snowing hard and windy. I noticed on some of the buggies there were tail lights attached. I had never seen this before.
It was the first time I had seen any Amish using electricity.
When I arrived to the company I was visiting I noticed many Amish working at the plant. Several were running presses which are obviously powered by electricity....kind of surprised me.
Intriguing culture...

Cantr needs an Amish type culture... Maybe a city on one of the old islands that refuses to use anything made out of wood or iron. Odds are some crazy person/army with a claymore(s) and iron shield(s) would come by and lay them all to waste.
