To put in my 2 cents, I was ADHD all my life, though my mom didn't want to fry my brains with Ritalin and Adderoll so she never medicated me, and was recently diagnosed with Adult ADHD. It doesn't necessarily make you jumpy and distracted, but for me it meant that i had an EXTREME difficulty concentrating on most things but a tendancy to get totally absorbed in a very few things: movies, books, cantr, etc.

My productivity was basically nil.

Since I started being medicated for it, I've slept better, I've fallen asleep less often during the day as a result, I have a much longer concentration span, and my vicious-bastard mood swings have all but disappeared.

My little brother was so ADHD that he actually couldn't sleep at night because he couldn't stop thinking about a million things at once. During the day he was pretty normal.

So yes, although many kids are just kids and don't actually have any sort of disorder, Adult ADHD (and many cases of juvenile ADHD) are actually serious conditions and need to be medicated.

My $.02.
I'm not dead; I'm dormant.

See, we are all very understanding Pie, because a lot of us are not so different then you. :D
And being heavily medicated is not fun, trust me on that one.

I didn't know that was an ADHD symptom, It usually takes me 2 or more hours to fall asleep after I go to bed. Oh well, I do some of my best thinking in bed.

The minor "fake" cases of ADD and what alot of self-diagnosed cases come from nothing more than primal coding. Hunter-gathers kept busy, they weren't at school for 7 hours or behind a desk concentrating. In terms of biohistory, the human brain is fairly new to this whole concentrating thing.

Alot of lazy people blame ADHD and ADD, and for them I feel no pity. But I do know that it is very real for some people, and I have met a college graduate with 2 degrees who had a very bad form of it and took very little for it.
