It's not about awarding players. I'm of the opinion that if we don't have dying of old age then simply the world will become stagnant with the same generation. We need the old generation to die and the new generation to replace them. We can't have immortal characters running especially some who will try to become immortal God-kings.

Plus, with the same people things will become very stagnant.

That would be true if they actually lived that long. But there seems to be "natural" death....caused by players having to move on in real life or the characters getting killed.

I think it shows by how few over 70 people there are.

Definetly, I see so few people over their 60's.

I'm for the idea of people dying of old age... It adds realism to the game, because, of course, people don't live forever. And not all of the people die due to a hear attack.. There should be different reasons for death, and old age is a reasonable one.

People don't live off of 42g of carrots a day, live in houses that weigh less than they do, or birth at age 20. Last I heard, tomatoes, grapes, mushrooms, and nuts were also nutritious and didn't seem to heal my wounds, and animals didn't stand still so I could hit them with a sword.

If no one wants their to be an age limit, whats the fricken point.

Why don't we just scrap the age thing altogether?

Theres already too much crap in this game about the "my characters older than yours"/"oh he's 40 he must be important"

And don't say that the older characters are an indication of experienced roleplayers, because there are plenty of 40 year olds who spent their whole lives siting on their asses eating carots.

In order for age to have a purpose it needs to have a meaning. Dieing of old age gives it meaning, or adding effects of being a certain age (i.e. weakness etc.) or both. Otherwise, scrap age altogether.

Age currently has meaning. Maybe not for your charries, but for most people's. If a man in his forties has something to say to me, I'm gonna put a lot more stock in it than if it's coming from some potential noob.

Example:

A man in his twenties says: I'm Lord Riven and I'm taking control of this town!

Reaction: LOL! Get lost newspawn before you get locked up!

A man in his fifities says: I'm Lord Riven and I'm taking control of this town!

Reaction: *Looks for Lord Riven's army, ducks into cottage and locks the door*

What the hell has that example got to do with age?

If a newspawn has power to take over somewhere he can regardless of his age. The reaction he gets while proposing to do so is meaningless.

Are you saying the reason we should have age is so we can have a laugh at newspawns?

In real life judgement is hardly ever made over age. If a twenty year old is threatening a coup on a military government in Haiti or wherever, no one goes "oh, hes only twenty. He'll never take over us." People should be taken for what they are, rather than there age. An ideal of cantr would be for people to judge each other on the way they speak or even the clothing and equipment they have, rather than age.

That too. If I want to make a qualified guess as to whether some sleepy guy in town is likely to ever wake up, I check age and clothes. If they are in their twenties but could be arsed to make clothes, they are probably not some newspawn who didn't like the place and decided to starve to death. ;) And older people, well, they definitely didn't starve to death upon birth.

What I think Doug R was hinting at is the fact that a twenty year old is unlikely to have an army. Basically, with the ever present "days work"-currency, old people have the advantage of having done more days work (and probably knowing more people), and thus having more power.

Woah ho ho! That's a lie. Teenagers' opinions are taken a lot less serious than adults, there's no doubt to it.

by the way rkleth you really dont understand when people say they're being sarcastic... i said, that if we killed off old people, then it would just give the message to the oldest cantr players that they are completeky ignored, and newspawns would rather be had rather than them, and so why not just kill off all of thier charcters of "old age" to get them to quit (and if you didnt get it that was an explaination of sarcasm, and also sacastic  :P )

But why are they? Because they are at an imature stage in growth. There is no growth in Cantr and if there were to be the old should become weak and eventually die.

I don't want to play a bunch of fliping elves so at least introduce some form of ageing if your going to make people imortal.

Cookie Monster has a point there. The whole people dying of old age is more real. I agree with that too. And if you think people should live forever so your charachters can rule their towns. All I have to say is "Step Aside Buddy."

They're going to die anyway. If not, more power to 'em.
