Seriously though... welcome to the game! You'll find all sorts of useful tips here on the forum.

Oh yeah.... If any of those silly boys start bothering you just let me know and I'll tie them down and beat them.

Hiya, welcome, don't be too scared. We don't bite, and even if we wanted to, we couldn't really, we're just lines of white text on a green background...

As for the IRC - my first reccommendation is to ignore the java applet - it sux0rz [sic] real bad

Try mIRC - it's a free download, and free to use (even after the 'demo period') and it usually works fine - e-mail the (usually) responsive CD if you have any problems setting it up.
