Personal revision

Sometimes chars have problems to give proof that they don't steal resources or simple don't have some things.

This is dangerous situation, when guards or bandits don't believe to explanations - even if char drop all items and resouces - often they must kill char to check innocence ;)

At Polish Forums was proposed that we have in Inventory button or link "Show All" - after use of this button by suspicious char (he can but not must do that) message with list of invisible items will be displayed:

9999-9 Maybe thief carry: 100 g of diamonds, 200 g of gold, 234 g of fresh dung

This can be also useful in trade.

There are IG ways to sort that out as it is now, the so called weight test

Pick someone up and check if they weigh exactly 60 kg?
Seriously though, as it is now, Cantrians are all assassins who hide 10 kg of stone under their loincloth. A way to show all that you're carrying would be realistic... but then, "realistic" is an N-word here. I don't think it trumps "fun" either, but it would probably improve "fun" too. ;)

EDIT: Allright then. Is it mean of me to ask for a quick rundown of this so-called weight test? I assume it involves dragging of the char and an inanimate object, and comparing percentages?

As Bear says there is a widely used in-game method which can determine how much another character is carrying even without their cooperation.

Yes - but if you mean '15.000 g of sand' method - this isn't 100% effective and you never be sure... What if we talk about small tool or 100g of diamonds?

Well if you know there's exactly 15000 grams then so it is, the carrying capacity is not known to vary. The only thing that would escape this is clothes and notes, since they are weightless.

In that case remind me never to get in a situation where I'm accused of theft in the polish region :)

I suggest you are not implementing the test correctly then . There are other ways you can test how much a person is carrying but the 15kilo test (properly implemented) is the easiest and most straightforward.

Notes are not detectable as they have no weight . Clothes and Jewellery being worn are also special cases but these are observable .

EDIT: Beaten to it by Seko, thanks :)

I think the best way to determine if someone has stolen anything, even notes and jewelery not being worn, is to kill them.

I know the intention of all this discussion is to be nice-nice, but I'm a town leader, so I'm tired of thieves.
Reality was never my strong point.

Chris, in many situations 'sand test' isn't possible - sometimes there is no sand ;)

Is this so dificult to program - simple listing from char inventory except notes?

Yeah - killing is simplest method... But waht if victim was been innocent?

I think most towns probably have 15000 grams of relatively useless stuff lying around, even if there's no sand. Try clay or dung or bones or something.

Yes, please remember that 15000 grams of sand weighs the same amount as 15000g of iron, or even 15000g of feathers...

Some people still can't seem to get their head around that

And thus the "dung test" is born.

Just kidding... In towns this isn't problem - but we have plenty of empty islands, just colonized, where hungry people start kill another people only because they think they have food... There is hundreds locations without buildings - even without any resources! There is now way to make sand (or dung ;)) test...

Seems perfectly reasonable to me that it should take some minimum amount of stuff for a local government to keep order. We take it for granted that a Cantr government needs (or should have, anyway) a building and shields; why shouldn't a heap of useless junk be part of that, too?
