No project report when there are repeats left?

Postby Hellzon » Thu Jan 12, 2006 6:05 pm

Wouldn't it make sense if a character was notified everytime one repeat of a (gathering) project they work on was finished?
The way it is now (if I'm not mistaken, the report only shows when the last repeat is finished) if more than one person is gathering the same resource and both drop the results (due to working on others' projects, or not having space, they have no way of telling who made how much (since gathering output varies by 20%).

(Oh, and any who say "an alert player who logs on more than once a day can work this out" will be un-gently directed to http://www.cantr.net/ where it says "Cantr II is a slow-paced game. Many players only play for a few minutes per character each day and one meeting can take a week to play. The game is designed for players who have more on their agenda then just gaming." ;))

I like this, and am assuming it should be easy to program.

I have noticed this over the last two weeks or so with a few chars that are finishing old projects. It makes sense to me to see this happen too.

This should be optional - something you can set in the player's preference, or (preferably) by character - Sometimes characters do hourly repeats, which would get annoying on the screen...

I'm against it, because the reason why you use repeats is to get smaller quantities fast. NO OTHER REASON... really... Otherwise you just get a larger quantity and that flashes up when it's done.

And please have a look at ProgD's Flyspray list before you consider posting little things like this... It's Hell, Hellzon...

My understanding of how repeats work is that the same random factor is applied to each repeat a project. In other works if the first repeat of a project has above average yield, the other repeats will have the same above average yield.

If this is the case and the change on the table is implemented, it will lead to some people starting a large repeat project, seeing how the random factor turns out then continuing to work the project if they like the random yield or starting another project if they get a low result.

I like the idea as to showing the results, however at the same time this is implemented, a change should also be made to re-determine the random yield for each repeat of the project to prevent abuse...

And for finishing abandoned projects with multiple repeats this would be a good idea as you dont always konw when youve finished a repeat if you dont log in that much

Just A Bill: This is already possible, since you can watch your inventory to see how much a repeating project is producing; I've done it occasionally. It's not a huge issue because of the cap at 99 repeats.

Didn't say this should have high priority. But yes, ProgD has my sympathies. ;)

It would not make it significantly easier - anyone who's going to go to the trouble of "farming projects" in the first place is not going to have a problem with checking his inventory every few hours.

And the whole "farming projects" exploit is not significant; that's why people don't use it (and why I stopped using it after a few tries). It gives you maybe +10% yield at the cost of a day or two wasted.
