Guess the Player's Characters! (with a clue or two!)

Postby Thetaris » Thu Jan 12, 2006 10:56 am

Simply, someone posts saying 'Guess who my characters are' and people have a jab at it, and the person replies with a yes or a no.

Note, please don't post asking for someone to guess yours while a few are already up- it'll get a bit confusing!! :P

Guess mine...

This is kind of more like a "look at the great IC things I've done because I don't see players recognize my characters enough!" Thread.

There are thousands of english speaking characters. Guess mine.

In general, good players should not be recognizable in their characters. The ideal of Cantr play is that characters should exist independently of the player. In reality, every good player has a different style - but even so, players are usually recognized through flaws in their playing style, or adherence to a single personality type.

What I'm trying to say is that you don't want players to be able to guess your characters, because if they can, you're doing something wrong.

So you can think of this as an ego wall, if you like, but I would consider it a wall of shame.

Quite so, Nick. And it's surely better not to know to avoid being influenced in play.

Sometimes you can guess based on writing style, activity patterns, forum posts, and for some of the older characters, you can guess from the knowledge of knowing who the older players are. It's not all based on character personalities and playing style.

You could try to guess through other people's style, unless they have some of those wierd characters (You know, the crazy ones). I think this thread would be better if you gave us some clues for one of your char's. Kinda like that game where you guess the things... :? ...I can't actually remember the name of any guessing games, I'm sure someone else here would.

URRGGHH!! NOOO!!!!!!!! YOU GOT IT ALL WRONG!!!!!!!!

I meant based on the forums!!!!

You'd never guess mine! Unless you guessed Thetaris or Chris Noonan, which are obvious, you wouldn't guess them...

I just wanted to see whether anyone had picked up on my characters via the forums or not.

I edited alot of my posts that gave my characters away, so... It was just a test to see who knew and who didn't...

Lol- seeker knows all of them. When I saw seeker reply to this, I was like, uh-oh...

So yeah... hopefully you get my point now.

Perhaps you haven't made as big an impression on the game as you thought.

But you really can't expect anyone to find one of YOUR characters out of the several thousand with no hint of who any of them are.

And based on the forums, well, not really going to help. It's not like people are reading through the posts.

Well, actually, I never really paid that much attention to the names of your characters. All I know is that they all have wierd names...hehe, Chris Noonan, what kinda messed up name is that? :P

Damn straight, I think we should turn this into a "give clues and then guess" sort of game/thread.

May as well. I'm sure we could guess some if you gave us a few hints.

Hang around a bit longer and read the RP Praise posts, cutest couple, All Star Government, Missed Dead, and other character listing posts. I have played for years and usually only recognize 20% of the characters mentioned.

It's not a small world after all.
