Zeppelins

Nice idea of Lukaasz from polish forum.

All we need, we already have:
• gas
• cloth
• wood

This kind of vehicle could fly as a bike on land and as a ship on water.

I like it. Far more practical than the mythical helicopter.

PRUT you are faster ;) So I move my post to this topic...

--

Idea from Polish forum.

We have boats, bikes, motorcykles and cars... Helicopters are too modern, I suppose. But why not dirigibles or balloons?

They can travel like vehicle between locations over land and like boat over sea. As resources for construction we can use eg. silk cloth - or impregnated with resin another cloth, ropes, some steel and wood - and purified gas (I know propan isn't helium)...

What do you think?

Balloons, however, can only go where the wind can take them. Seeing as we have no wind, that could make things difficult. Zepplins, on the other hand, would need engines and props.

Currents and oars.

Of course, mine are special and towed around the sea by a pack of trained narwhals.

Zeppelins would probably be fairly easy to code for such a revolutionary change - just ships that can travel on land.

But I'm not sure I like it. It would be a big change.

I had a ship that somehow crossed over a beach area and travelled across a huge island. I assumed I'd just be able to zip across and come out the other side, but when I hit the boundary I couldn't cross back. It was free flow travel across the continent just like a balloon....but I guess it was a flying sloop. Quite fast.

So, Orenthal Jaye and Tarnis were the first to travel by zepplin...even though they don't atually exist.

Well.... I'd say that when you are in a zepling, or a balloon, you should be able to see who is doun THAT WAY(Points to the exit over their)

You get what i mean. When you are on a zepling you should be able to see events that are hapening, and then when cantr world war 1, we can have zeplings to scout the battle feild for tanks and people with guns and forks:p.

And then a plane comes.. and NOO!!!! ITS GOING TO CRASH!!! JUMP OUT JUMP OUT!!!!! no wait,,, I FORGOT MY PARACHUTE!!! AAAAHHHH!!!!!!

So yea,,, Parachutes.

If it were to be implemented I think it would be good to build something like a harbor (hanger) to build/launch/land them, just to make it a little harder and so that our maps don't get overcrowded with little black dots to quickly.

Zepplins would need a fairly large programming change I would imagine, one that allows air travel....
I'm sure if air-travel is ever programmed into Cantr, then Zepplins/baloons of some kind will be included.

Huh? Why then have helicopters been mentioned ever since I discovered the game, then? Surely it could be that all air traffic has to follow current roads. (All the iron deposits, that no-one has discovered, foul up compasses, and this is the only means of navigation.) What's the difference then between an airship and a bike?

HF, per my note above I already travelled in a "balloon". It was a sloop trapped within the boudaries of a beach, much like a boat but on the other side of the beach. I could go anywhere on the island that I wanted.

It would seem the only programming would be to change interior towns with "ports" so the balloon/zepplin would recognize it was there.

I believe it is on the awaiting progress / roadmap to implement flight. Is this really the first time Zeppelin has been suggested on the forum? I know it is popular and would be a major change, but I think it would be a change for the better.

Providing rapid transportation across developed areas (not necessarily for exploration) is very important to supporting stable longterm and long range societies like empires. I would like to see flight require airports, similar to sea or lake access to help control the flow of flight traffic and help maintain it's balance in the game.
