Punchbags!

Postby MrPenguin589 » Fri Jan 06, 2006 9:22 pm

Yes, punchbags. As I'm sure you're all aware, it is difficult to get your hunting and fighting skills up without getting arrested for one thing or another. With punchbags, you won't get arrested or nothing! You could have either human or animal shaped (for fighting and hunting skills, respectively) and you can hit them more than one time a day! They would require cloth and like cotton or straw or something like that.

Agreed. The obvious thing to do would be to punch the bag hundreds of times. Your tiredness would be at 100 very quickly, but you'd still gain full experience because experience gain depends solely on the percentage force used.

Okay, fine, you can only hit it once per day. Or twice.

Fine. But I still have no idea how easy this will be to code.

It depends...if this thing works like some MUDs, than it'll simply be an NPC that never responds or moves. It just gets punched. And you have to manufacture it. But I don't think Cantr is programmed the same way as MUDs are...

Solution: one punchbag you can hit one time a day, but you can make 10 punchbags and place bench in training hall... This should take loads of resources - but can be really useful.

NO NPCS!

:P

This is just something to abuse to gain exp. Me no likey.

Go ahead and add it though. Just make it need hemp cloth, for durability, and cotton fibers for padding. Then code it like a crowbar, where the project "Smacking bag around" takes a whole day, and if you're successful, you knock the stuffing out and destroy your bag, and need to make a new one.

Then me likey.
Reality was never my strong point.

Indeed. :)

There is really no need for objects that offer consistent training opportunities. There are alternatives to this in game, and I advise that it should be thought up deeply before making suggestions such as this, no offense intended.

I think I suggested this idea before or meant to but anyway. If it does get made make it be made from wood, sand, and leather.

Punching bags to increase your strength would take Cantr another step down the long skill-based road.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

Fighting I think should be a skill that is learned by sparring with others. Maybe it would make Cantr more skill based but is it fair for one guy to be an expert hitter and another guy to be an awkward hitter and not much can be done about it except sparring?
