I'd like there to be some chance of warnings before one dies of old age suddenly. Such as a gradual weakening or heart palpitations happening randomly as you get near your death date. I realize there certainly are times when people just drop dead after being perfectly healthy, but the majority of "natural causes" deaths by aging should have some sort of forewarning.

That's a good idea, that way people would be able to go about their "Death bed" roleplaying. Man, wouldn't it suck to start roleplaying your death and you live for another 10 years.

Another question, I think this was asked a little while ago but does the age of death vary from something like 90 - 100? Or is there a certain age age where everyone dies.

Yes, I am in favor of more diseases. I think it would add a great dynamic if there were Cantrian cancer or influenza, etc. I was thinking how great it would be to RP death bed speeches, but now they can only come from people planning to delete their characters. (Votes for bleeing, cancer, hail, locusts...)

In israel, on someones birthday we say "until 120 years" so maybe we should all live until 120 in game too

Well, I don't know about all those  but maybe a coughing sickness...in line with the sneezing sickness. Ideally, it shouldn't take a death bed to roleplay, but I guess people are that lazy so that death of old age with notice is necessary. Not many make it there anyways, so that's kinda realistic.

I disagree with that unless you're joking, in which case I still disagree. It's blatantly OOC then. I think it should be randomnized 80-100. Nonetheless, I'd be sad if my character died of old age (as they're creepin on 60).

I agree. There should be more diseases; old age should increase the chance of getting a disease or the effects should be worse; and people should generally have a high chance of dying when they're older than 80 and shouldn't really get older than 100. That has always been my plan, just never got to programming it :) ... It's starting to get urgent, though ... so any active ProgD people reading this? :)

Imagine the ramifications if there's an error in coding this when it rolls out. The tiredness kinks were one thing, but I can't fathom how to recover from a glitch that instantly killed, say, everyone over 50, short of going back and pretending that day never happened. Yowza, talk about a challenge to get it perfect the first time. Good luck with that, whoever takes that one on.

Cantr Stats Issue 2

The 'population pyramids' are similar to those that belong to countries where the birth rate is very high, but the life expectancy is low (check out some pyramids of poor countries here: http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/idbpyr.html ) It's similar to Ethiopia's pyramid...

It seems that just over 30% of newspawns do not make it to their first birthday - which, as every new character begins at twenty, gives an infant mortality rate of about 30% - three times that of Rwanda (Which has one of the world's top ten highest infant mortality rates)

Anyways - what was this topic about?

Oh, yeah, death by old age

I agree that there should be some kind of 'warning' - either a disease of some kind, or a preliminary stroke or heart attack or some such...

What would be good, is to make use of the 'skills' system - the skill of a character should take into account the age of the character, as it does with injury (damage) - the oldet the character, the worse they get at everything, generally. Until, eventually, they can't do anything well at all.

If there is an age-limit, it should be over 100 - but only by a Cantrain decade or two...
Whoever you vote for.

The government wins.

Huh... today is 1403. This gives 1400/20 = 70 years. +20 at start = 90 years. In fact we've got only 8 chars in 80s in Cantr (and one of them will become 90 years old today - happy birthday), so I think time has come to implement... the death. This also could be nice reason to make mixtures more useful by giving them abitilty to reduce olderness effect.

Also time in cantr is different.

Shouldn't the estimate maximum age be different as well?

I have to say, considering the huge number of "natural" deaths (i.e. heart attacks) that we already have, to deliberately kill those characters who have survived everything.

Cantr has an entirely different age dynamic to real life, and I think programming should reflect that. There are few enough old people without killing the ones we already have...

As for disease, if ProgD dares to implement more diseases without New Lands correcting the huge misjudgement in medicines... it'll be another incident like the skills implementation, when players leave the game in large numbers.

Just my warning... and considering I have been pretty accurate in previous predictions...

I agree with Surly's incomplete thought.

It only takes one look at the demographic information to see that there are very, very few characters that survive to age 70 and beyond. I fail to see why it would be important to implement something that would artificially cease their existence.

Jos, if you look at the distribution of age are there really that many old people?

It would seem that just making them more susceptible or weak might be enough to have them die normally without a hard death point.

Heck if someone wants to play a character that needs to be dragged around to move or can only talk I think that would be extremely interesting. :D
