See Landmarks When Arriving at Location

Postby Theon Stark » Wed Jan 04, 2006 11:50 pm

Actually seeing the landmarks when you enter a location, rather than looking through objects

"999 - 0: you arrived at unamed location. You see a wooden landmark - welcome to kwor"

Conisdering it's just lazy, I wouldn't bother if it's more than about five minutes worth of work in order to implement it.

..make that one.

How would a location with multiple landmarks be handled?

Yeah, they're becoming a cheap way for charries to immortalize themelves, aren't they, especially since they don't seem to rot.

no landmark:
"999 - 0: you arrived at unamed location."

one landmark:
"999 - 0: you arrived at unamed location. You see the following landmark:"
" a wooden landmark - welcome to kwor"

more landmarks:
"999 - 0: you arrived at unamed location. You see the following landmarks:"
" a wooden landmark - welcome to kwor"
" a stone landmark - here rests Jimmy Hendricks"

I realize there's the potential for it to get out of hand..... but I still like it. :D

perhaps only the 3 (or whatever number can be agreed upon) most elaborate or oldest landmarks would be seen.

How about by it's bad quality? Come now.

You see the following landmark:
" a wooden landmark - *You see a severed head struck upwards by a spear shafted into the ground, showing it's very frozen agony.*"

Having that aside, being limited to seeing only a certain number of landmarks may not work due to that every character may have it's own unique view. Perhaps this could be done by probability of what landmark or landmarks has been seen, but I guess it would be hard to progress. So I would prefer seeing all landmarks, despite the flaws. Or I'll just disagree to this suggestion overall due to the flaws.
Notice how weak and petty we are / In the grand fixture we come afar / Hey we can't help it / No denying the prerequisite for love / Your very existence / You're the source of my substenance / Slow down take your time and feel the / Flow

Not exactly cheap, you still need the resources, and the time taken to build them. If someone wants to take the time to build a memorial to "Zoe "the Beard" Robinson" then they take the time and do it. Thats what landmarks are about. They're built to be seen, not searched through and found at the bottom of "objects"
