Signs, books, filing for notes

Postby UloDeTero » Wed Dec 28, 2005 1:06 am

I haven't seen this mentioned, at least not in Suggestions. Apologies if it's old news.
Ok, how about if you could make notes into things like signs, notices, posters?
How about some kind of filing system to organise your notes?
How about if you could make notes into books? (This would basically just be in terms of layout. ie: instead of a huge scrollable block of text, there're seperate pages which you 'turn'.)

Edited for thread title. -rklenseth

Thanks, Sunni

The last two, particularly would be useful. My character is writing a journal, and it'd be cool to see it as a book in-game. 8)

I'd personally like to be able to burn notes to get rid of them permenantly.

I agree. Aside from the obvious desire to clean up old notes, it'd also make the written word a bit more valuable, as someone could go on a note-burning spree and erase important information. The down side of that would be the whole note thief situation would become even more of a problem, as they'd just steal them and burn them. I think it'd be worth it though, and fun to watch how the characters reacted to the more realistic (IMO) possibility of loss.

About the journal, I too have a character journaling. When I started I had him writing a new note each day, and placing each note in an envelope marked "Journal." Now I'm starting to write longer notes over a period of days. It's a conflict though, because on the off chance that he's killed, I really want the notes to be uneditable and preserved as they are. He's not that important in the overall scheme of things, but he thinks he is. LOL

What about a book-binding process where separate notes could be bound together into one volume? That would make the journal issue much easier, and also allow for a bit more organization of things such as histories and maps and such. Just a thought, and probably already discussed somewhere. The topic just made me think of it.

I was gonna leave this post, with Sunni treating it oh-so-ever-so-nicely (grr... :P), under the assumption it would die, or someone would resurrect an old thread on the same topic... But now it's started to go on, the itch had to be scratched...

Note burning/destroying: Destroying Notes, Destroy notes, Notes, and Note deleting (which is a very old thread)

Books: a book is in 'Accepted Suggestions'

If you want to discuss the above, please resurrect an old topic, not put it here - especially in the case of the one already moved to accepted, about books... It's much easier to keep track of the accepted/rejected/implemented suggestions when there's only one thread on each suggestion...

Firepit could be used, to stop suicidal note theives from getting anywhere... and also, Talk about a Stalinist History Realignment :D

"*he takes the notes about TBr and burns them* What? there was never a TBr!"

I agree that this would make the written word more valubul, because most History of Cantr is written...

Thanks HF, sorry for the continued old discussion. I missed an important part of one of the posts that would've told me that. Obviously more sleep is in order... :D

I wish I would have gone ahead and gone through with my "stop your bitching" post I had written up yesterday.

Burning notes has been implemented already. It is achieved through recycling of editable notes or the ever so colorful TRASH envelope.

The biggest implementation that needs to seal the deal is the ability to rename an envelope. That is the only thing that irritates me about the whole note permanance pseudo-issue.
