Animal Aggression
I am pretty sure that this has not been suggested yet, but how about if instead of only attacking people, animals would attack each other. Sort of like a balance within nature. Per se if the deer population was too high, then the predatorial animals, such as the lion would attack it. I don't know how hard it would be to program, but realistically it happens.

What pains me more than the duplicate suggestion (and Chris beat me to the 'wait for individualisation of animals response') which, depsite avi's claims, did cause minor internal bleeding of my brain due to the intense anger I felt, is the bumping of what should be allowed to become a defunct, ignored, orphaned suggestion thread, keeping such a sorry excuse for a suggestion thread at the top of the list angers and pains me to a much greater degree.
And, yet, by posting here, I have once again made this piece of annoyance rise and go all orange-icony for others. Such a heinous act requires me to burn myself to the ground where I sit... now where did I put that handy can of napalm?...
EDIT: and I don't know where this rumour came from, but I am not a regular devourer of souls.
Most of them taste too bitter...

haveing animals attacking other animals has its problems
1. it completely removes need for haveing people to hunt to bring numbers down
2. it might extince a species that people where trying to protect.

I don't agree. Animals attack Cantrians randomly and at unplanned times, often with little force. The animals would not destroy another species in any short period of time, just as they would not kill Cantrians off within a few days (bar certain places where animals just go crazy...) The attack on protected species provides an incentive for hunting, for domestic peace, as well as food and manufacturing.
