Repeats

Postby Crosshair » Thu Dec 22, 2005 12:02 pm

Could it be possible to add repeats to an already started project? This may be useful and easier than starting another project after you have finished the first, say if you do not have much time to log in and start another, plus it guarantees your place in the resource limit. This caters for unforseen circumstances E.g

You need more wood as you are going to build two cottages rather than one, so you add another repeat to your project in order to get enough wood.

This could be abused, if you see that your repeat is larger than usual with the random variation, you could add more repeats and make it so that you get +20% every time. Since the random variation is counted only once per project and doesn't change for each repeat.

That's no good, that means it's abusable right now. Just start any project you think you might want to repeat with lots of repeats. Then first time it gets to 0% done, see what the random variation is, and decide whether to cancel it or not.

That's doable; I've done it myself. But it's not usually worth the trouble, as projects can't have more than 99 repeats. This change would give large groups every incentive to look for projects with large yields and farm them forever. Clear case of the cure being worse than the disease.

Also, as the original post implied, it holds your place in the resource gathering queue, thus preventing anyone else getting in, on locations where gatherer limits are tight. I'd call this abuse.

well then perhaps a limit on the ammount of repeats you can ADD.

And how is it any different from someone starting a project with 99 repeats. it has the same effect that you do not stop gathering.

I already suggested something similar to this, except it was called 'Queueing Projects'.
Evolution is unconformity.

No. That's different. This suggestion estends a repeating project, while yours links two (or maybe more) different projects.
