Can we give the broom weapon like qualities? I want to hit raccoons with a broom.

Seriously, In RL if I was going to hit someone and; I had a broom, a screwdriver and a stone pot, I'd use the broom.

Who says it needs to be completely useless. And it would make for some good RP.

Lets say that a bone shield has a 50% chance of defending a person. Lets name this chance, property A. And then, lets make a suit of armor, and give this suit of armor, property A. As simple as that.

Still not getting what you want. Why use properties when percentages are what you mean?

He's using properties to represent percentages. No reason why he should do that. If you know the percentage, why not just put it straight in?

I fail to understand how an extra level of abstraction would help in implementing armor in the game. I would like to see armors too, but I wouldn't like to see characters that noone can hit at all, so I guess balancing of the defensive values is an issue.

No
No armour
Then no one would wear the clothes that exist. Status would be determined by armour. As 'leather armour' is likely to be the cheapest form - everyone will be wearing that. It makes no sense, though, for the members of a peaceful city to all be wearing armour. But that's what will happen if it is implemented.

It'd make it too much like the MUDs where someone's status can be decyphered from what armour they wear...

How about this. Implement armor, but decrease productivity, increase the tiredness rate for doing anything in armor, and don't allow resting in all but the lightest armors... Further make the protection value of the character the higher of Armor and Shield, not the sum of them.

People will still wear armor all the time, but at least there is a cost associated with it.

Mayby armour penelities to all activity? Heavy armoured person = slow person. Slow trawelling and slow digging, farming, munufacturing...
So wearing armour will be good only for specyfic situations. For guards, warriors, war time....

Or work with armour = tireness.

Nice to have armour, but wearing it will be rare for members of a peaceful cities.
