I have no valuable opinion and am just wasting my own time by making a choice, and his time by making him read my choice! I should go now!

While I honestly can't be bothered clicking back and forward getting the quotes from here, it's pretty basic what the general (important) issues are.

a) It would split the Cantr community in half
b) Are you an idiot?
c) Progressively growing/better graphics and large maps would eventually move the players away.

I'm actually disagreeing with myself here, too. The intention is to gain players, and to gain new player interest. In time, I'd actually be stealing player's time and attention from the original Cantr, and cause less players, which is definately not what I'd have wanted.

So I think what I'll rather do, is still continue with the game, but remove some of the aspects of Cantr that turn away many 'I want instant satisfaction from games' kind of players, rename it to my own, and go about things that way.

I would actually be stealing the flame from the ProgD and Jos. That's definately not what I want.

But! As I said, this post wasn't exactly my notification that I was going to make the game. It was simply a suggestions topic, opinions topic, and thanks to the Forum'ers I've made my decision. It's final.

Can someone lock this Topic, please? I've finished. Thanks.

He wants to make HIS OWN game. So just because you like Cantr and don't want it to have graphics, doesn't mean you should "not want" Thetaris to make this game. It will have no effect whatsoever on the cantr.net we know and love.
I say; go for it man, as long as the staff won't sue you for copyright violation or something. As to whether or not your game will be good or bad, well we'd have to see it first. I will play it based on that, and my current level of free time when teh game comes out.
And as for making some parts of the game purposesly stupid to mimick or even "mock" cantr (ie: having everyone in a 80 person town within speaking distance of each other) would be funny for a few minutes, but I'd really rather see a graphical version of Cantr take a different route on some things, this included.

So my vote; go for it, I'll try it out once it's playable. And mock or praise you based on it's quality. :D

Ah, thankyou Nick, but your post comes momentarily late. Hm, I'm afraid it will affect Cantr.net (effect, is probably the correct word). That's the issue. And my main intention to make the game, as stated before, was advertisement for Cantr, and it would be pulling players away from the real thing.
Sorry to dissapoint.

I thought Pie started this topic

Pie probably did start this topic. But I doubt it went anywhere.

And of course it takes years to make a GOOD mmorpg. I've made plenty of lan-based MMORPG's in weeks. Yes, weeks.

I just need a server, but for now, I'll keep my computer as one.

Certainly.
It's nothing brilliant. It was a basic engine, and I went on further to string some graphics and a tiny map to it. I still have the engine, and a fairly large executable file.
With full respect still lingering for a staff member, how exactly would you like me to distribute this game fairly to every player? In particular, the ones without email addresses stated?

If you set me up a place to upload it, I'll upload an engine I'd use for the Cantr game I would have made. It's .exe of course.

Otherwise, I'm not wasting my time going into Geocities and setting up my hundredth account.

Urgh, I mean, without sounding like a complete arrogant ass that I usually am.

Don't ask me to change that.
I'm really not an ass around my friends and relatives, I just have issues with forums.
Particularly, go to www.worldofwarcraft.com and check out THAT game's forums. Every topic ends in a fight.

What are you talking about?

I'm just asking if you could show us some of those lan mmorpg's?

Can't you take a few printscreens or so and upload to imageshack?

You understand, MMORPG doesn't have to have a lot of players. It can have two, but so long as it has the potential to hold a lot of members, then it's a MMORPG. I'll happily send you it. But you'd be disapointed.

I meant to say,
I can create an engine for MMORPG's in weeks. Then, another week, and an entire map for the game can be completed. Another week and the interaction with a server can be finished. Etcetera.

Weeks is plural, friend.

That's not my point.

I'm asking about the ones you made. Not the ones you're possible of making.

We want pictures!

Yeah, yeah, saving it etcetera now. I honestly hope you're not taking this intellectual discussion as a fight?
