I have no valuable opinion and am just wasting my own time by making a choice, and his time by making him read my choice! I should go now!

I don't lack the skills, I already applied for the Players Department and completely ignored, not even a no, or a yes. I don't want to join an inactive staff, or ignorant staff. I'd rather work by myself or with closer, more trustworthy people- sure, I trust the staff, it's just I know my own friends and fellow collegues better.
To tell the truth, I honestly can't be stuffed rewriting my resume/questionaire answer for the ProgD.
I know PHP and SQL and all the common programming languages under the sky, and some unknown ones I know a fair amount of. *sigh* Here it comes:
-PHP
-SQL
-Visual Basic
-C
-C++
-Dark basic
-HTML
-DHTml
-XML
-Java
-Javascript
-GML (Game Maker Language)
-Quick basic (Qbasic)
-Cobol
-Pascal
-Perl
-Flash (ie the Action Script)
There's a few more. But these are the ones I know best. Not in specific order, just in order of what I recalled.
Evolution is unconformity.

I, for one, like this idea. YOU HAVE GAINED A PLAYER!
All of my endings are waiting to begin.

Hmm. That is something that I for one would not like to see happen. The reason I love Cantr is because it took me so long to find it! And now that I have it, I love that it is text based, because I can roleplay that my character's appearances are changing to be pretty much whatever I want them to look like. For instance, a character could have short hair, and then years and years (IC) they have long, curly locks. It's fun. And you really can't get that with an image based rp.

Plus, all the descriptions and personality things are helping me in my English class. I'm much better at writing stories now.

I hope that you have Jos' approval before you steal his game. . . . Otherwise, I think stealing someone's ideas like that is the epitome of "uncool."

I would definitely not play a graphical version of Cantr. I like the current Cantr, and will not play anything different.

No offense, but I don't think you will be able to create anything nearly as good as the current Cantr. . . .

I am wondering about the qualifications of this collegue or if he/she truely even exists!

Did you list all the games and sort them into two categories and if so, could I see this list? or did you just count on your fingers, and if so, can I see these fingers? or are you just calling someone an idiot because you like to make yourself look big by standing on the backs of others?

Setting aside the question of whether Thetaris can actually pull this off, this could be workable and a good thing for Cantr. But it's not much good if it's just a clone of Cantr, hosted separately. That would basically split the game into players of the old Cantr and the new - and (no offense intended) I think that even if all the mechanics of the original were faithfully ported to this graphical Cantr, with improvements, most players would trust the current power structure over Thetaris working with his colleagues, who we don't know very well at all.
The result would be that this experiment either dies, wasting a lot of good work that would have improved Cantr immensely if kept in-house, or survives by stealing a portion of the current Cantr playerbase, weakening both worlds.

Also, please cool the flaming of Thetaris, of opponents of Thetaris's idea, and of the Cantr administration. It's not helping. I admit I just want to see this thread die a natural death, but getting people angry is only going to keep it smoldering along for weeks. It's certainly not going to help it get accepted, either.

How bout this..... It will be in exparimental mode only, only available to the programming department, and of course, beta testers. And when it has become compleat, we move the new graphics into cantr.

That's probably how it would be done under the auspices of the Programming Department, and how I think it should be done.

I'd like the option of playing with or without the graphics. About 25% of my playing time lately has been on my Blackberry and though it does do graphics, it would be way too slow to handle them in a game.

Though, I would enjoy it on my PC...sometimes.

Yes!! The option of graphics or no! Either that or make this new graphical game completely separate (ie: perhaps the same general makeup but a different world etc...)

Either way, I think a discussion with the creator of Cantr would be the next step. Hey, maybe he'd have some input too?

Did you write like that in your application for staff too? I for one would think twice about putting someone on staff that thinks people are idiots just because they don't know something or don't have the same view of things.

It takes a long time for applications to be fully reviewed and accepted or declined. You can't expect an answer right off. And also, I think how long you've actually played the game is very important as to whether you would be considered for a staff position or not. That goes back to the trust thing. They have to feel like they can trust you too.

If you have the time to set up a whole new game, then you must have time to rewrite a resume for ProgD. If you've already written one up, though, I don't see why you'd have to write it again unless it got lost. :?

I'm not much for this idea. It's one thing if it's kind of based on Cantr but, as someone else said, make it a whole new world. A whole new game, even if the concept was influenced by Cantr. I agree with what Sho said about it weakening the player bases and all that other stuff he said and others have said that I don't want to repeat.

I also think you should talk to Jos, because Cantr was his creation and to take it and make it into something else without his approval and permission would be wrong. Especially if it is in a direction he might not want to see it going in.

Regardless of what anyone thinks about the idea, please Thetaris, can you quit attacking other forumers - I have seen a number of times on other threads too, where people disagreeing with your opinion get insulted. Frankly you seem rather arrogant and full of yourself and not somebody I'd have on the staff from choice.

Not flaming you, or attacking you, but please can you moderate your posts.

And please don't post 4 times in a row...

Thanks.

Pie probably did start this topic. But I doubt it went anywhere.

And of course it takes years to make a GOOD mmorpg. I've made plenty of lan-based MMORPG's in weeks. Yes, weeks.

I just need a server, but for now, I'll keep my computer as one.

Why does everyone seem to misunderstand Thetaris?
He wants to make HIS OWN game. So just because you like Cantr and don't want it to have graphics, doesn't mean you should "not want" Thetaris to make this game. It will have no effect whatsoever on the cantr.net we know and love.
I say; go for it man, as long as the staff won't sue you for copyright violation or something. As to whether or not your game will be good or bad, well we'd have to see it first. I will play it based on that, and my current level of free time when teh game comes out.
And as for making some parts of the game purposesly stupid to mimick or even "mock" cantr (ie: having everyone in a 80 person town within speaking distance of each other) would be funny for a few minutes, but I'd really rather see a graphical version of Cantr take a different route on some things, this included.

So my vote; go for it, I'll try it out once it's playable. And mock or praise you based on it's quality. :D
