Douglas Adams is terribly tedious and boring...horrible reads. I hated them.

*backs into a corner* Waaait! I've got good tastes in other things! Can't you spare me? It's only one offense! *hides*

I actually have a contribution to make to this topic, too... I just remembered a character of mine (dead) who met Sun Tzu... not a very elaborate name, but I really liked it...

SUN TZU!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

That is so unemaginative.

Sun Tzu was some dude in, like, china who wrote this book about the arts of war... or.. somthing.

But the thing is, Sun Tzu was IG, and IRL.

Ah...Chinese history is the one type I really don't care about.

Still, it's a cool name.

Yes, Pie's got it right. The Art of War. *has a copy over on the shelf* It's really not that long of a book, either, and the advice (although military) applies today just as well, milleniums after it was scribed. I'm also pretty sure, whether intended or not, there's an allusion to it in one of the recent forum topic titles. ;)

Are we allowed to nominate out own characters?

Because one of my favorite names is my old char Chalcedony Grey. Unfortunately due to exams I let her sleep to death not long after she spawned, and to this day I'm still kicking myself about that.

Actually, my cousin was the one who thought up the name 'Chalcedony' (she was taking geology at the time) and she's pissed at me too because she's playing now and wants to use it. :D

I also stole the name 'Marble Catseye' from her. It's kind of sad the way I let all my coolest characters die. I've got to work on that whole attention span thing.

Now back to your regularly scheduled discussion, which has nothing to do (alas) with Douglas Adams books.

Thanks to the road-name amnesia, Dirk is now forced to drive his bike pretty much the same way his namesake from the book drove a car, namely by following someone who looks like they know where they are going. And, just as in the book, rarely does he wind up where he intended to go, but always someplace he needed to be.

Of my own characters, my favorite name was Bork Furklezblat. I played him as a gag character, and it was fun for a while, but I burnt out on coming up with jokes.

What do you think of the name "Jones Electrobyte"? He was my first character, and one of my favorites, but I was always a little embarrassed of his last name. It worked, though, because he himself professed it was a strange name.

Hmm... some of my favorite names...

José Lentamente, one of my Spanish character's former friends... lentamente translates into slowly.

Then there was Szjvrod von Skopje... I think. But he died too.

I can't remember the Empress of Zuzi's name, but I know it's cool!

Empress Zmambee Sambo. Always loved that name.

An original name is just making some extra letters and diacritics? Wait then, I'm gonna win this topic.
