Breeding/Spawning a possible suggestion.

Postby Antichrist_Online » Fri Nov 25, 2005 5:10 pm

<Seko> After the selection period has been finished, people could choose when creating a new character wether it will be spawned or born. Maybe spawned characters wouldn't have a chance to be fertile. So there would be two races. After the beginning seed bunch, that was formed of people already existant, there wouldn't be any more fertile people exept for the ones that have grown from children.

<AntichristOL> Sorta making two races: The Spawners and the Breeders.
<Seko> Yups
<Surly> Doesn;t bother me...
<Surly> Women have to do the laying... :p
<Maelstrom> That won't cause any strife, two races. :)

<AntichristOL> Spawners are more mentally underdeveloped (worse rp likely) and breeders are more physically underdevloped during the first few years.
<Seko> Yeah
<Surly> Sounds good to me...
<Seko> Though lets not blame all spawners
<AntichristOL> I'm not, I was making a general point.
<Surly> Not sure if I started a new account I would go for all breeders
<Seko> I think it should be a choice by character, not by account.
<Surly> So some spawners must be RPed by some people
<BlackCanyon> Unfortunately... you can program in physical strength...but not intelligence
<Surly> who would RP breeders
<AntichristOL> I don't mean no rp, I mean spawners doing silly things like stealing notes and stuff.
<Surly> Ah physical strength... the invisible stat
<Seko> Yeah
<AntichristOL> The spawners would be physically stronger but breeders would develop faster maybe?
<Seko> Children could also steal notes, but they would be less efficient since you could take things from them
<Seko> Yeah that's a good one Anti
<Seko> If breeders would also develop skills faster

<Seko> Anyway, but the two races would be physically alike. So imagine if you fell in love with someone and then they told you, sorry I'm a spawner/breeder

From chat.

Thus implimenting breeding as a separate race. This would solve the choice problem with a species choice, and give advantages to both.

This was in the beginning:

<Seko> Anyway, I was thinking one day that people could select which of their characters will become fertile. After this if they have intercourse, there's a high chance to get pregnant.

<Seko> And we'll let societies deal with it as they want

<Seko> It could be that all fertile ones would have to escape to Omeo island and stuff like that

<Seko> Or maybe they would learn to live in peace
<Seko> Even though ones carry little people in their stomach

Well of course, that's what you think of every <censored> thing suggested and I'm pretty sure you can't follow what was in my head when I came up with that stupid idea. You wanna fight, huh? You wanna fight with me? Don't say anything if you got nothing constructive to say. My mood is so <censored> up today that I'll take every excuse to use somebody as a punching bag.

I like some suggestions, but most of the good ones have already been made.
Don't care for this one, having two races of people.
What if you want a child and were spawned?

Then you shouldn't have picked spawning in the first place. Excisting characters on the moment of change will have a chance to choose wether they're fertile or not. Either it'll be a two-week period or so, after which the ones who the choice hasn't been made will be marked as spawnlings.

It doesn't necessarily have to be so that if you spawn after the change, you would automatically be non-fertile, but then again how do you raise a child if you have no memories of being one? Be that the first people wouldn't have this but there will have to be some seed people in the beginning, but if we continue having the option to start as a twenty-year-old, get pregnant and die stealing notes or other stupid stuff like that, leaving behind a child without parents. If you had to play through the childhood, you'd realize from first perspective how hard it is to survive without parents, and when you got your own character, you would try to give it a better life than you had.

I don't know if I'm making my point clear but anyway, having to wait makes you take making kids more seriously. If every one day old newspawn is allowed to get pregnant then there'll be a vast load of people who get set into child roles, full of expectations, only to die because your momma is played by some Sunday player who checks characters when they got nothing better to do.

I voted no to this. Primarily because of the concept of two different races, the fertile breeders and the infertile spawners.

I understand the reasons for this suggestion and agree with the sentiment that with parenthood goes some degree of responsiblity which may not be seen in a significant minority of players.

A possible alternative is to say that Cantrians don't become fertile until they are in their thirties. This gives those who spawned sufficient in game time to establish themselves and to survive to that age implies some degree of non-noobish behaviour. There will still be bad parents , but hey we have that in real life anyway.

I think the idea of delayed fertility is a good one. Characters should have had a reasonable amount of time to 'pay their dues' and get established before bringing up children becomes an option.

Never really been a fan of breeding, but I could definitely learn to live with this. Best suggestion I've seen on the subject so far.

I like the idea of Cantrians being fertile when they reach their thirties... It'd also be cool if few random Cantrians would be infertile, just like in real life...

And maybe, later on, their would be cures for that, like medicines and stuff, and those infertile Cantrians could be become fertile and have babies!
