In that case...there's no 20 year old heroes. How about you can only apply one of your character that's over the age of 30. We won't be getting the letters from all those newspawns. Plus, how would they decide who's famous? Well...the way I see it, if most of the people in the department haven't heard of this character...then that character obviously isn't famous enough. It's really not that hard to work out, famous people are people that are known by a lot of people.
Plus all these magical items would not become an issue. Only items that can become like real artifacts would be implemented.

It becomes a rather large department if their members have to have characters at every location, don't you think?

Not really, as I said before, if most of those people haven't heard of this character he/she is obviously not famous. We could even run polls on it, although we really don't need to. If they are famous you don't really even need to be in their exact location, if they are famous at least one of your characters should have heard about this person.
We don't even need to start a new department, we could just use the department that writes descriptions for clothes.

I am against this idea the way it is presented. I also disagree with the notion of RPing holding a staff that isn't there...

But I would like someway to dynamically name items. For instance, one of my characters carries the crossbow of a fallen friend who died in battle. He regards the weapon of his friend as a sacred artifact. I would like some way to differentiate that weapon from any other crossbow.

In this way, if someone wants their stick to be recognized as the Staff of the Serpent God, they can rename it that. And anyone who sees their staff and is convinced that it is the one true Serpent Staff can dynamically name it as such.

So... no to unique item creation. Yes to the option of dynamic naming of tools, machinery, weapons and shields.

Engraving items has already been suggested, more concisely and clearly.

Must have missed this one, but I like it. Even if we just got the object itself without the dynamic part, this would do wonders for roleplay, and seems to be a lot more practical to implement than many of the other 'sounds good as long as you don't think about it too hard' suggestions being made recently.

No. Let's keep Cantr in the hands of the Players.

I gathered a selection of quotes and things that people have said, appreciate it Seeker. It took a while to do. :P

Accept it, this is a poor idea, wasting Cantr Staff's time and effort.

Perhaps instead of having unique objects we can have medals. Such as

"You see a man wearing a gold medal" and then you can insert a description about the medal such as "It has two stars and a red stripe on the bottom"

Mm. It's a good idea, but it's not what Seeker is suggesting. He's suggesting only those kinds of things can be opened up to people who are 'famous' and 'popular' in Cantr. But no one really can judge who's the most famous person, as it's just a biased opinion and I believe it would jam up the system, phsyically work-wise and bandwidth-wise.
