Baghdad Battery

Postby Antichrist_Online » Thu Nov 17, 2005 5:33 pm

Archeologists discovered an ancient battery which was believed to have been used for primitive electroplating and accupunture style healing. The basic principals of such a battery should result in a useable cantriian battery, which I feel should be needed to build a radio, and in the future dynamos/sulphuric acid batteries/dry cells will replace/compliment these but in the mean time it's simple enough for current cantriian technology:

Battery Casing
500g Clay
50g Copper
Knife
Hammer

Battery
Battery Casing
10g iron
250g Acid
30g copper.

Two different ways of making acids, which are all about the same:

1) Acid
2000g potatoes
Millstone
stone pot
produces 50g of acid a day

2) Acid
500g Grapes
Open Fermenting tub
Stone pot
produces 20g of acid a day

Open Fermenting tub
600g Wood
Hammer
Knife
(Can't be used for making alcohol as it's aerobic and not anaerobic fermentation)

Once citrus fruits are discovered they could be pulped and filtered to make acid.

Also when someone finally makes it so pots and amphorae can be made in the kiln, as I suggested before, the casings could be made in there.

Someone's been watching myth busters I see. :) Great suggestion for future electronic works. Maybe we'll see watermills and things in the future to generate some power.

Or possibly the radios require Battery power? Which makes perfect sense, then, all you need, is to add a battery to your car as well.

Certain radios can be hand cranked, I believe.

It is unfair to require batteries for radios after they've already been implemented without this requirement. Otherwise, I'd demand my copper and wood and all that back (which is quite COSTLY in itself). Maybe if it increased range or something, then okay.

Mm.

Well, how about, for longer-ranged radios that can recieve bigger messages, (lets say, faster as well for the sake of advantages), you'd have to use a battery. Otherwise, sure, talk to the people two towns away.

Dee, I don't know if you've heard of it, but its like a cliche science experiment to use a potatoe to make a clock or light a lightbulb.

But this battery would only be useful if we made a second generation radio or more advanced electronics, IMO.

Funny thing, one of my characters was just pondering of having a powersource... Now only to implement inventing gadgets, they don't have to work in any special way, just send up a few sparks and stuff like that.

Ok, i actually like this idea, exept for one thing.

Have the ned for acid to be less in a batery.. like... only 100g of acid.

And also... Hou about.... shorter radios don't need bateries (Ex: I'm only calling from blaman to the place doun that road) And longer radios need batteries(Two toun radius) And the longest need even more batteries(Three town radius).

And also.... A LAZER BEAM!!!! :p

Just kidding.

This is not going to change current radios. But with the creation of newer things, such as maybe an amplifier to increase range or a repeater to carry on frequencies even farther, this might be nice. Lemon juice can also work as a battery acid.

But once again, great idea.

And pie, nice job keeping a clear thought. Its getting better.

How about batteries to allow shipboard radios? That could fit with the general long-range idea.

Indeed.
Radio's, telephones, they both used the crank.
In WWII there were hand-cranked field radio's, and even today there's radio's for third-world countries using a crank, or which are charged by shaking them (kinda like those kinetic watches, just shake your hand and it stores kinetic energy).

True, but even then that's high-tech for Cantr's tech level.
