Age of Empires 3 or Civ 4?
Due to my no car, no job, and overall limited money situation, my computer game budget has become very limited to the point that I can only buy a shiney new game every couple of months. As a domino effect, I can't afford to upgrade the PC so I can only have a few games on my tiny hard drive anyway. With Counter-Strike and Sims 2 + expansions already on it, I have narrowed it to these two choices to fill my strategy game slot. Which one would you get? Even better, could you give me a few pros and cons from preferrably first-hand experience on each game so I can better make my choice?
keep in mind my system isn't too powerful, 64 meg video card among other things.

Wow.. You are smart.
Empier earth 3: I don't know about graphics, most likly there up to date. It is a basic build 'em up game. The strategy is to build alot of manufacturors, alot of worker (i don't know the names of things) Have them all gather recourses, and just build 'em up. It has no strategy involved, (hardly any, actually) Unless you have the hand book in your hand, and are reading the one about wich unit does more damig to wich unit. Its the only way to win.
Civ 4: Graphics, up to date. It is a stratigy game, so it will use every part of your brain. You can either, be a comunism, wich means not much civil disorder, and be a warior country, you can be a democrasy, and win by being the head of the U.N, you can be an industry country, and build alot of improvements, including a space ship, wich will win you the game, (all of this is frome my experiance frome civ3)
Basicly, Empier earth: one way to win, very easy, if you know that one way.
Civ 4: MANY MANY ways to win, and you don't even have to use one stratagy for each way to win. You can win any way you like, As long as it is a good stratigy.
Civ 4 ROKS!!!
But U.S. MAILING SYSTEM STINKS!! AND I HAV TO WAIT A WEEK FOR IT TO COME IN!!!(Actually, it was a week ago, so it should be ariving soon.)

I got Civ 4 the other day (even if I don't play it much, I've played Civ since the very first and had to buy it just for that reason if nothing else), and so far I've decided never to buy another game Take 2 has anything to do with.
Not only did I almost get screwed by those jerks when I bought Pirates (had problems with it crashing and their support told me it wouldn't run on my com, then 5 minutes later I had it up and running from info I found on a forum and found out the crash had nothing to do with my hardware) but now I'm about to get screwed with Civ 4 because there is an obvious error in the programing, but instead of fixing it (yet) they're saying there's nothing wrong with the program (yeah, right, they mislabeled the discs in my package, and alot of English versions got French tech posters so I know there's problems in the program if they can't even package the damn thing right) and that it's my graphic card. Once again, I got the game up and running from info on a forum, but the workaround reveals the entire map and basically ruins the game, so I'm sticking with Civ 3 till Take 2 stops sitting on their heads.
I've loved Sid Meier's stuff since I was about 13, but he's about to lose a player because of his choice of publisher/product support.

... so right there , I can only run it on an old laptop which grinds to a halt processing it - My main machine has the same problems yours does (even though its graphic card is one of the "recommended" ones)
What I can't understand is why it really needs this degree of 3-D graphics processing - The basics of the game don't require any whiz bang graphics , they add very little to the playability and in my case effectively reduced the playability drastically.

I think it's because they have some misguided mission to 'catch up' to the graphics on other games like AOE 3. At least that's the only reason I can think of for them to go from a game that only took a 500mhz pro to a program that takes a minimum of 1.2ghz which basically turned it into a 'gamers' game. I'm with you on the playability issues also, not only are the graphics not any better then Civ3 (only real diff is the 3D aspect) but the interface is more complicated, junked up, and adds nothing to the game. We can only hope they learn their mistake before they goof up #5, if there is a 5 after this abortion they served to their fans.
