I pity them, I don't think too many people who actually want to be a telemarketer, and they have gotten a horrible name for themselves (for very good reason), but I feel bad for those people.

I did cold calling for one day - by accident

I had signed on with a temping agency, and told them I don't do cold calling. The first (and only) job they gave me involved calling those people who had forgotten or not seen the tickl box which says 'Do you mind us contacting you' or whatever - pretty much the same as cold calling...

It's a horrible, dirty feeling.

I hate cold calls, I hate telemarketing. But I do have empathy for those on the other end. Very few people take up telemarketing as a career - it's usually students or other people who have no choice but to take unattractive, part time work.

If I do get a cold call, I usually say no thankyou, politely and hang up
Whoever you vote for.

I love them...
I always try and turn around and sell them something...or I lead them on and then tell them I cant buy the product for some reason or another.

Depends on the product. There's lots of things sold that way. It surely works, but it does get annoying.

There's a no call list in the US so there aren't as many callers these days.

Also, I have a land line in my house only for my business. My phone and my wife's phone is a mobile phone and those numbers don't get published.

My number is on the no call list and I still get solicitation calls from blocked numbers, far as I'm concerned any who call are fair game.

I like telling them to get a real job or telling them to 'hang on' and just sitting the phone down till they hang up, and if they give me any lip I just cuss them out till they bail out.

When someone says don't call, don't call

Ever stepped it up a notch to the "Welcome to the City Mortuary..."? You can usually get the jump on them during that telemarketer pause.

Yeah, but they normally just say something along the lines of "That's a good joke, sir", they know it's a residential # because it's listed.

telemarketers are like collections agents... they all want your money, but this time, you haven't gotten the product yet.

I am polite to them, which is more then I can say for most people. But since I made the unfortunate mistake of working in collections for a year... I sympathise with them. They gotta sell to get paid.

All telemarketing calls aren't scams.. at least what we're doing aren't. But yeah, I can sympathize with people getting about 15 calls a day from different telemarketers, most of which are nothing but polite, and are selling the same type of product...

Telemarketing is just fancy SPAM. I happen not to have the appetite for it.
