Use of dung.

Postby tiddy ogg » Tue Nov 08, 2005 4:43 pm

In the wiki it says that dung can be dried and used as fuel. Presumably a drying rack can be used for the processing, but what about the cooking. A fire pit?

Unless I've missed an announcement, drying racks can't be built at the moment although a solution should be on the way.

What I want to know is if your food will taste funny if you use the same rack for meat and dung...

Drying racks just take wood and string... but the uses listed don't include dung.

... but where do you get string from? As I understand it, materials like "hemp string" or "cotton string" can't presently be used to construct one.

Hemp or cotton, to yarn via spindle, to string via some other m/c widely available whose name I forget.

You CANNOT make plain string anymore. Hemp string / Cotton string is NOT "string". Thus you cannot make more drying racks either.

Not at the moment there isn't, even if the racks were still makeable, drying dung isn't possible on them

Yes, it only takes 120 grams of string to make a drying rack. Once made, you can dry meat to eat. And then people can walk by and say, "you certainly have a nice rack"

Where's the logic of drying dung on a rack?

Firstly you can prepare meat on a drying rack, no dung required! It's called "Jerky"

Secondly, Dung dries naturally. I was under the impression that because we are getting handfuls of "Fresh" dung, that it was going to "age" much like our tools rot. Hopefully, dung will be usable faster than bone knives become un-usable.

It'd be silly to have a machine do what we have the code for and what would make sense.
Reality was never my strong point.

I am with Agar on this one, perhaps Dung should just be left on the ground to dry.

maybe we finally will have a purpose for the ever popular tool, the stick... a new weapon called Dung on a Stick
