People tend to view the 70's as some totally socially-aware conscientious period in recent history, where students were more socially and politically active, and more compelled to participate in protests and political movements, specifically anti-war demonstrations...

Now, incidentally, that directly corresponded with the draft. Interestingly enough, when the draft was repealed a few years before the Vietnam war ended, the protests dissipated, although the war was still going on. Of course, there has not been another draft since.

I think, and will always believe, that the extent to which people will be motivated to take action toward or against any specific cause is directly proportional to how much it personally affects an individual's life. Would Cindy Sheehan have been in the spotlight to the extent that she was if her son hadn't died, or even been in the war?
Beatings will continue until morale improves!!
