Day 1337, does anyone care?( I considered this too pointless and irrelevent for general discussion, even though it is Cantr related)

1337 is nerdspeak (they have some other word for that, but basically, nerdspeak is what it is) for "elite".

Nerdspeak indeed. Hmph. Actually 1337 means leet. It is a "language" often used in first person shooters, such as Counter-Strike or Battlefield 1942. This is the 1337 alphabet compared to regualr.

Here are some common phrases:
1337 = leet. name of "laguage." Also used to say elite.
h4x0r = haxor. means either hacker or a really good person. I.E. im such 4 1337 h4x0r!
n00b = noob. derogative name for a new player. also refers to a really sucky player.
Pwn = Own. I.E. I pwned ur ass!

And some that most are familiar with:
brb = be right back
g2g = got to go
afk = away from keyboard
lol = laugh out loud
lmao = laughing my ass off
rofl = rolling on floor laughing
omg = oh my god
omfg = oh my fucking god

Oh, wow, I got a complete introductory course in nerdspeak. :wink:

I'd like to smack anyone that consistantly writes like that. It's far worse than even Piespeak. :shock:

look up 'leet' on the wikipedia - it's all you'll ever need to know

it started out on BB boards as a way of avoiding censoring of swearing and talking about illegal sofware exchanges
It's now mostly used by teenagers, I became quite fluent way back...

Back in the days before my idiot mother installed a new firewall without telling me, ruining my steam app, I always used to intentionally hunt and kill nerdspeakers in CS. I miss that game, nothing like shooting people in the face with a shotgun to ease tension.
