Scaring away animals

Postby Pirog » Mon Dec 01, 2003 11:16 pm

One of my nature and life loving characters currently has a bit of a dilemma with a wild bear threatening their settlement.

She does not want to see the animal dead, but it can't remain there attacking people.

I think it would be good if there was a chance to scare animals off.
It could be like a project with a random chance of success, possibly with future tools making it quicker. (like fire.)

This would also be a good way for poorly armed people to fend off animals.

What do you think?

Yeah, I had a char who thought the "bear men" just needed to be shown how to properly fit into society. It didn't work.

Just kill the damn bear.

And the BBQ afterwards will make your char forget she ever resented killing it.

edit: And how would you scrae off a wild bear? making faces?

Most animals run from loud noise..although it'd have to be quite a bit to frighten off a bear...and if it's a polar bear, you can pretty much forget it.

My father said that, when in the Yukon, he got some polar bear scarers... Quarter-sticks of dynamite.

Unless the polar bear scarers turn out to be polar-bear-piss-off ers

then you have a large angry bear after you...

Fire probably works...or a large group of people shouting and throwing things after it :)

If you have dynamite on you, why not blast the bear to oblivion instead of scaring it away?

No need to search your pockets for a large group of people or a campfire.

for black bears it doesn't take much. shouting and clapping loudy is usually enough. but they're wimps i guess compared to their polar cousins....

DAmn...

I really, really want to have a polar bear skin on the floor here in front of the fire. One of those with the head still attached to it. But where to get one of those? i heard they are sold in Greenland, but that's not a place I usually go to.

Tried to turn one of my dead hamsters but they're too smaal. I've collected enough dead hamster skins to make half a glove of. I think i'll just wait untill our cat dies.

And i dont think scaring animals away would be a good idea anyway. Whats wrong with killing them? cmon, it's a game...
